Project Team Updates:
West Pullman,
Chicago
Become part of our first ever domestic program. EWB-CPC is looking to help West Pullman create an accurate and complete database of vacant and abandoned properties to push the City and property owners to address the issues created by these properties. The team is currently drafting the application required to make this an EWB program and is continuously interacting with the community and Habitat for Humanity, our NGO partner. They are also attending Chi Hack Nights to meet civic-minded techies.
The Los Alas Program (more info) just returned from their first Assessment Trip. The program was adopted from the Rice University Chapter and EWB-CPC is addressing the dire need for clean water in the community. The team is looking for experience with EPANET and Civil 3D.
The team is getting ready for Phase II of their Energy, Water Supply, and Sanitation project. All volunteers welcome! Currently need help in Engineering (Water, Structural, Wastewater, and Energy), Report Writing, Curriculum Development, Health and Safety, Fundraising, and Website Management.
The team is working on a water distribution project for the community of Armenta. Currently, the community receives water one day a week. This project focuses on enhancing water access through a storage tank and pipeline system. The project also includes 8 pipe suspension bridges. The project team could use volunteers with Spanish skills, sociological skills, construction management experience, volunteers willing to be part of the pipe assembly team, and volunteers to work with video promotion of the project.
The Candelaria team returned in May from an Implementation trip that focused on projects involving construction of a Medical Waste Incinerator and an Aquaponics Pilot Demonstration system. We are taking a summer break before we conduct monitoring and develop procedures to finalize the operation of the Aquaponics Pilot Demonstration system. We are creating a marketing flier and report, and are in need of a web site master and marketing specialists.
The Candelaria Team had a celebration of "Five Years in Candelaria" on July 7th. We were happy to welcome back several of the original travelers on our seven trips to the community. Our next meeting is on September 15, 2015.
