Establishing a Culture of Peace
The Role of Media in Nonviolence
Extra! Extra! On September 9, Michael Nagler will be speaking at the High-Level Forum on a Culture of Peace at the United Nations. He'll talk about the role media can and should play in creating a nonviolent culture.
Michael, Metta Center's founder and president, was invited to speak at the forum after Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhry of Bangladesh saw our relaunch issue of Emergence, which looks at media and the new story. Unlike corporate media, we're not out to maximize profits for shareholders. With Emergence magazine, the shareholders are all of us—each human being is ultimately invested in the vitality of our hearts, the health of our planet.
If you haven't seen the relaunch issue of Emergence yet, you can download a free PDF of it. Inside, you'll find practical solutions, Q&As, art, and literary pieces. Enjoy!
Warmly,
Stephanie Van Hook
Executive Director
P.S. We want to spread the message of nonviolence far and wide. Can you help us do that? Starting today: Become a sustaining donor of $10 per month ($120/year) or more, and receive a subscription to Emergence.

Nonviolent Interventions
This week, we interviewed Tiffany Easthom, whose experiences in Peace Brigades International and Nonviolent Peaceforce gave us invaluable insight on how Unarmed Civilian Peacekeeping has matured over the last 12 years. She also shared stories of her team workers courageously and successfully diffusing violence. We concluded the interview by inviting her back, so stay tuned!

Experiment in Truth
Equality to Gandhi was something that had to be actively pursued, as the problem of inequality had sunk its roots into the psyches of society.
Notice how and when you may feel superior to others in daily life. And then, challenge yourself to try to think of that person as your equal.
