Thursday Bulletin - Back to School Edition!

August 20, 2015

Back to School Logistics
We’ve sent an email and mailed packets, but here are links to help answer some back to school questions. This information is also on our website: More new staff!
We are pleased to introduce a few additional staff members:

Liza Tredway, Music
Joining our team, for the 2015-2016 school year, is Liza Tredway. She served as Coordinator for Music and Drama at the American School of Madrid, directing both choral and instrumental programs and additionally took on the role of MAIS (Mediterranean Association of International Schools) Middle School Honor’s Choir director for five years. Liza is a professional singer, pianist, director, actress, and choreographer, and brings a wealth of music education experience to our school and community. She is a long time member of Actor’s Equity, Screen Actor’s Guild, American Federation of Radio and Television Artists and the American Guild of Variety Artists and comes to us after living in Spain for 16+ years.  We know you are as thrilled as we are with the addition of music to our school and finding the right person in Liza to create and implement beautiful music experiences for and with our children!

Kelly Brown, Student Data and Project Manager
Kelly joined the Inspired Teaching School in the summer of 2015. She manages projects related to enrollment, student data and state compliance. Her passion for building high quality public schools started as a classroom teacher. For six years she taught elementary school in Alexandria City, Washington, D.C. and New York City. Prior to Inspired Teaching, she worked as the Data & Technology Associate as part of the founding operations team at Democracy Prep Congress Heights. When not working she enjoys traveling, watching college basketball (GO HEELS!), and spending time with her husband and daughter. She holds an MEd in Elementary Education from George Washington University and a BA in History from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Garyn Gabriel, Special Education
Garyn is a native of the DC metropolitan area. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and is seeking her Master’s in Education with a focus on Instructional Technology through Johns Hopkins University. This coming May she plans to celebrate the completion of her Master’s. She has been teaching special education for three years and has taught a range of grade levels from preschool through eighth grade. She enjoys traveling and hopes to see all of the Wonders of the World. She highly recommends visiting Chichen Itza. It is amazing!

Sherman Jenkins, Cafeteria Coordinator
Sherman is a proud native of Washington, DC, born and raised here. He attended college in California at West Hills, Community College and Cal State, Fresno. After he came back to Washington, DC, he returned to his alma mater, Cardozo High School, coaching softball and football. He was introduced to Inspired Teaching School through his work with young people at the YMCA as part of the Before and After Care Team, and substituted in classrooms throughout the 2014 – 2015 school year. He’s excited to formally join the school’s team and looks forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2015 – 2016 school year.
