1st RUFC soccer camp a HUGE success

Mpigi, Uganda, August 3-7, 2015

Ray United FC's first weeklong soccer camp was held 3-7 August in Mpigi, Uganda. The camp, organized in collaboration with Uganda NGO Twezimbe Development Foundation, incorporated professional soccer coaches, local businesses, and students from the University of Southern California and Makerere University. The camp reached over 1,200 students (boys and girls) from more than two-dozen local schools. Learn more!

Watch a short video recap of the camp!

It's time to launch my 2015-2016 fundraising campaign! My goal is $50,000!!!

THANK YOU to all who donated in 2014-2015. Together we raised over $40,000! These funds were used to bring two youth from Mpigi to California for soccer camp, begin construction of a new four classroom block at Namabo Primary School, construct a new soccer field at Bujjo School and Orphanage, and host a weeklong camp reaching over 1,000 youth with soccer training, public health education, and nutritious food.

PLEASE renew your commitment this year!! This year my goals are to #FinishNamabo, expand my soccer camp to new communities, and once again support travel and school fees for excelling student-athletes in need. I welcome any ideas and advice you have!

DONATE TODAY!!

Final push to #FinishNamabo Primary school!

The school frame is complete thanks to all who purchased bricks! Now we need to finish the roofing, plaster, windows and doors. We need to raise $8,000 more to finish and equip the school for students. Donate today to the #FinishNamabo campaign! All supporters will have their names engraved on a plaque at the school.
Growing support for scholarships!
RUFC supporter, Emily Sagardia, announced her commitment to cover school fees for two Ugandan youth. Selected student, Joseph Mukiza (pictured), wants to be a climate scientist when he grows up so that he can help his father improve his farming. You can also get to know and support a child through RUFC!
USC global health students join forces with RUFC!
A team of USC graduate and undergraduate students and alumni traveled with RUFC to Mpigi to teach public heath. Over the past 12 months candidates in both the master of public health program and undergraduate global health major developed a public health curriculum and student workbook that they implemented during RUFC's soccer camp. Once there, the Youth at Work Initiative Uganda paired them with medical and nursing students from Makerere University in Kampala to deliver the public health program. Miriam enrolled in new school!
After living and attending school in an institution for troubled and abandoned youth, Miriam has been admitted into a beautiful new boarding school. Her tuition is being covered by individual sponsors through RUFC who met her during her recent RUFC-supported trip to California. Join us in wishing Miriam a great new start on the RUFC Facebook page!

Unintended benefits...
RUFC camp participant, Soul, came to me on the first day in tears telling me his tooth had been hurting for 3 months. I asked him to open his swollen jaw, revealing a rotten and infected back molar. I immediately went with him to a nearby clinic. 20 minutes and $4 later the tooth was extracted and Soul was given antibiotics. On Friday Soul was back at camp with a brilliant smile!
