Kitchen Witch cookbook store This month we travel to Louisiana to visit Kitchen Witch Cookbooks, a small book shop in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. Author interviews and cookbook excerpts
Nancy Hachisu Susan Loomis Amelia Saltsman
Nancy Singleton Hachisu moved from California to Japan in 1988, intending to stay for a year, learn Japanese, and return to the US. Instead, she fell in love with a farmer, the culture, and the food, and has made the country her home. Nancy has just released her second cookbook, Preserving the Japanese Way. Nancy spoke with us about the book and about her life in Japan. Another American expat, Susan Herrmann Loomis, spent her childhood moving around the USA and from country to country with her military father. She now lives on Rue Tatin in Louviers, France with her husband and two children. She's written many cookbooks, and her latest is In a French Kitchen. Susan provided us with an excerpt from her cookbook. Since the publication of her first book, The Santa Monica Farmers' Market Cookbook, Amelia Saltsman's fans have turned to her for fresh, intuitive, seasonal cooking. She is regularly sought out for her expertise by many national publications. She has just released her second cookbook, The Seasonal Jewish Kitchen, and she spoke with us about the book.
August cookbook roundup
August brings a slight increase in the volume of books. This month we find a few big names, with themes centered around Jewish cooking, citrus, and the perennial yin and yang of baking and healthy eating.  Check out all of the new cookbooks on the EYB blog.
World Calendar of Cookbook Events
Icebox Cakes cookbook This month features a new UK entry as Rick Stein tours in support of From Venice to Istanbul. New for the US is the promotion for Icebox Cakes with Jean Sagendorph and Jessie Sheehan. Ongoing events include Nathalie Dupree & Cynthia Graubart in support of Mastering the Art of Southern Vegetables. These are but a few of the promotions you can find on the continually updated World Calendar of Cookbook Events. Remember that in addition to book tours, the calendar lists cookbook store events, publisher online events (like sales!), and author cooking classes.

In a French Kitchen Preserving the Japanese Way The Seasonal Jewish Kitchen
Even before Susan Herrmann Loomis wrote her now-classic memoir, On Rue Tatin, American readers have been compelled by books about the French's ease with cooking. With In a French Kitchen, Loomis demystifies in lively prose the seemingly effortless je ne sais quoi behind a simple French meal. We're delighted to offer 2 copies of the book to Members in the US only. Click the photo to enter the contest, which ends September 2. Nancy Singleton Hachisu's Preserving the Japanese Way introduces Japanese methods of salting, pickling, and fermenting that are approachable and easy to integrate into a Western cooking repertoire. We're offering 5 copies of the cookbook to EYB Members in the US and Canada only. View the contest, which ends September 8, by clicking the photo above.

Remember, you can view all current contests on the EYB blog.
In The Seasonal Jewish Kitchen, Amelia Saltsman takes us far beyond deli meats and chicken soup to explore a universally appealing world of flavors ideal for modern meals. She traces the delicious roots of Jewish cooking from ancient times and also showcases the global nature of Jewish cuisine. We are delighted to offer 3 copies of the book to Member in the US only. Click the photo to view the contest, which ends September 25.
