Force Racing Youth Squad

Starling/Laser Squad for 2015-16

Yes, it’s time to start thinking about committing to Squad training for next season so we can organise things with Force Racing.  At this stage we are lucky enough to have on offer to coach the youth group at FBYC Libby Porter the 2014 Starling girls national champion, overall winner of the 2014 Starling NIs, and now campaigning for the Laser Radial U21 Worlds in Holland; but we need to move fast to confirm she is still available so get back to Fergus quickly with your expressions of interest

Megan at the Youth Worlds

Kingston, Ontario

Megan has just finished sailing the Youth Worlds in her Laser in Canada. Suffering from a severe throat infection manifesting into asthma she didn't have the best regatta but put in a valiant performance including a notable 23rd in one race in the fleet of over 50. A great effort and valuable experience gained. Results here

MRX Youth Pathways Regatta

More experience on keelers for FBYC

Our team of Logan, Jake, Lachy, Ngaio & Joe competed in this year's regatta, sailed in a perfect 8 to 12kn North Easterly. The youth crews adapted amazingly to keel boats and kite work to sail 5 hard fought windward leeward races without incident. This year there was a great tussle for first place with first timers, Murrays Bay Sailing Club edging out Wakatere Boating Club 1 for the win with another first timer, Glendowie Boating Club third. Also new this year, Maraetai Boating Club finished fourth, with French Bay and Wakatere 2 next. The idea of the regatta is to highlight avenues for our skilled youth sailors and their parents to continue enjoying their yachting once they graduate from the youth clubs.

Notwithstanding our starting challenges in the beginning, FBYC were a bit unlucky in several situations including being beaten out of second place on the last leg of the race on two occasions. All up though a fantastic team effort where FBYC were very competitive even if the results belie this fact particularly as we were lacking any external gun keelboat influences. Special mention to our very slick bowman Jake who made some of the great technical kite manoeuvres possible for us as a new and relatively inexperienced crew. Big thanks to Fergus for coordinating and supporting the team.
