Health and safety training
Essential training for Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers

Wednesday 2 September 2015
5.30 - 8.30pm


Do you understand your responsibilities when organising Sustainable Neighbourhood activities?

Learn how to manage risks and protect the health and safety of volunteers and participants in your activities.

"This training gave me confidence and reassurance about organising our events safely and effectively," previous participant.

At least one representative from each Sustainable Neighbourhood group should attend this training.

Location:  Lake Macquarie City Council Administration Building, 126-138 Main Road, Speers Point
Bookings are essential via email or 4921 0117 by this Friday 28 August please.
Council's Living Smart Festival on Saturday 26 September is fast approaching, and we are looking for volunteers to help!
Our stall will be focussed on promoting Sustainable Neighbourhood projects and recruiting interest in groups across the city.  We'll also be doing some promotion and education around reducing plastic bag use.
Help us promote your Sustainable Neighbourhood group.


Our roster is split into 2-hour shifts to ensure the stall is staffed throughout the day:
7 – 9am  (includes set up from 7-8am)
9 – 11 am
11am – 1pm
1 – 3pm  (includes pack up from 2 – 3pm)


Please let us know as soon as possible if you are available for any of these shifts.

We had a lovely afternoon at the Toronto Fire Station on Saturday, and learned all about some completed and upcoming Sustainable Neighbourhood projects from across the City.

Graffiti Removal Day
Sunday 18 October
Is there a spot in your neighbourhood with graffiti?  You can nominate it as a clean up site for Graffiti Removal Day.
You can also register as a volunteer to help remove graffiti on the day.

Awabakal Nature Play Day
Saturday 5 September

Dudley Sustainable Neighbourhood Group are having an afternoon of adventure for children and adults.
Nature Play connects, excites, and moves us all but is often overshadowed by perceived hazards and risks.
Hear about schools and communities overcoming these and embracing the benefits of Nature Play.
Discuss the regulations, risks and benefits with Nature Play expert Niki Buchan.

Don't forget the West Wallsend District Sustainable Neighbourhood Group's fundraiser this Saturday 29 August.
Head to Bunnings Glendale* and grab a sausage sandwich.

* Bunnings Glendale is now located at the corner of Munibung Road and TC Frith Ave, Boolaroo.
Applications for Council's current round of Environmental Sustainability Grants close on 7 September.
The Awabakal Nature Play Day and the Toronto Fire Retardant Native Garden were both funded through this program.
The next round will open 1 February 2016 and close 14 March 2016.  Start thinking about project ideas now!
