NEW You Can Help Out—Especially for Club Officers and Members

Saturday, 29 August
9:00–9:30 a.m.—Volunteer Check-in at WSC Terrace/Light breakfast for volunteers
9:30–10:00 a.m.—Instruction (dos and don’ts)
10:00–noon—Greet students at Brigham Square and take them around campus.

We invite you to volunteer at fall orientation’s Class Schedule Walk-Though. In addition to being a great service opportunity, it’s also a great way to promote your programs/student organizations. New students bring their schedules to Brigham Square on the Saturday morning before classes start. We match them up with volunteers to physically walk with them through their schedules—find their classrooms, share ideas on where help labs and study areas are, give good advice, etc. We will do our best to match students with volunteers in similar fields of interest to make good connections. 2015 Discover Goldman Sachs—Salt Lake City

The 2015 Discover GS Regional Camps allow junior and sophomore undergraduates insight into careers in the Salt Lake City Goldman Sachs office. This unique event brings diverse students together to experience this innovative and collaborative summer internship program. Attendees will receive a comprehensive introduction to their divisions of interest while developing their financial services acumen and interview skills through business overviews, case studies, best-in-class training, and networking opportunities. Washington Seminar Winter 2016

To qualify for this internship, students must have at least sixty graded credit hours, a GPA of 3.0 or higher, as well as good academic/honor code standing. Once accepted, you will be provided with placement opportunities with many government and private offices to provide you with the best possible internship. The seminar also includes discussion sessions with students and faculty on current topics of national interest and group excursions to historic sites in the Washington, D.C., area including Gettysburg, PA, and Philadelphia, PA. A BYU faculty member will live in the D.C. area to monitor your internship and ensure a quality experience. An orientation class is required prior to departing for Washington, D.C., to help prepare you for the seminar experience. Through briefings on current national issues, tours, and excursions, the Washington Seminar will enhance your education and help you be better prepared for your career. NEW Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

Application deadline: Thursday, 1 October

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program invites recent college and graduate school alumni to apply for full-time, six-to-nine month fellowships in Washington, D.C. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with a strong interest in issues such as export controls, international security, and ethnic conflicts, and those who have prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy. Benefits include a $2,900 monthly salary, health insurance, board and alumni mentoring, travel to Washington, D.C. to begin the fellowship, and a small stipend to attend meetings or take a course. Central Intelligence Agency Scholarship Program

Application deadline: Thursday, 15 October

This program is designed for those who are looking for career experience in a dynamic environment and want to contribute to the work of the nation before graduation. You will complete work sessions during each summer break, increasing your knowledge and job responsibilities while assisting intelligence professionals and applying your academic skills. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. If selected, you will be given an annual salary; a benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, and retirement; and up to $18,000 per calendar year for tuition, mandatory fees, books, and supplies. You will be required to work at an agency facility during summer breaks and to maintain full-time college status during the school year with a minimum cumulative 3.0/4.0 GPA. Museum Curator—Museum of Mormon History

The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise and manage the Museum of Mormon History in Provo, UT. Job candidates would be responsible for organizing museum inventory, giving tours, and maintaining the appearance of the museum. An ideal candidate for the position would be bilingual in Spanish and English, as well express interest in LDS Church history. Candidates need to show integrity and be punctual. BYU Homecoming Brimhall Memorial Essay Contest

Submission deadline: Thursday, 24 September, noon

The BYU Student Alumni Association and descendants of former BYU President George H. Brimhall honor the founders of Brigham Young University each year at Homecoming with the Brimhall Essay Contest. The competition is designed to encourage high levels of scholarship among BYU students and to promote understanding and appreciation of BYU’s mission and legacy and the challenges of its great founders. This year, BYU will honor Abraham O. Smoot. First prize wins $3,000 with second, third, and honorable mention prizes also available. For contest details see flyer.
