GPCC housing programs provide opportunities for homeowners and renters

The GPCC's two integrated housing programs focus on improving housing conditions for homeowners, tenants, and landlords.  The Micro-Market Recovery Program targets foreclosed and blighted vacant properties with the goal of rehabbing and reoccupying them. To date, a total of 37 buildings and 133 units of vacant properties are available for reuse. The MMRP also works to help homeowners in crisis stay in their homes and decrease the number of additional foreclosures. Staff attends housing court dates for local properties and are available to help residents navigate housing court and secure financial and legal help to keep their homes.

The Garfield Park Housing Center continues to provide ongoing technical assistance, education, and support to tenants and landlords, as well as access to legal resources through the Metropolitan Tenants Organization and Lawyers Committee for Better Housing. The Housing Center served more than 350 tenants and landlords in 2014.
