Crystal Deroche Agency developed and curated the concept Afrofusion. This installation explores the concept of African heritage fused with the rest of the world. Through this, Afrofusion explores five different themes.
- Africa meets Asia (Focus on Japan) Designer: Sholly Jaay
Her piece was inspired by the traditional kimono mixed with the Harajuku street style using Aso Oke and Ankara (print fabric).
- Africa meets Asia (Focus on India) Designer Rovisa Design.
She was inspired by Saris which are traditionally worn by women in India that she paired with print fabric.
- Africa meets Middle East Designer Cyndy Holt
Holt played with the use of elegant and sober cuts, chiffon and feathers to express the beauty and mystery of this fusion.
- Africa meets Europe Designer Hair Artiste and Designer Angela Plummer
Plummer specially created a Braid Couture dress made from 100% braided hair with a strong African influence through the focus on statement shoulders and neck and a hint of high fashion with a European feel.
- Africa meets South America Designer Kim Stevenson
A fantastic fusion Masai, Zulu and the South American feel topped with a street style twist through the use of denim.
All these interpretations express some of the varied ways that Afrofusion can be presented. Let’s open our minds to creativity.
