Role of Ministry called into question as family fights to keep daughter on life support

Inclusion BC is calling for an inquiry that would seek to understand how and why the Ministry of Children and Family Development intervened in a personal health matter with the intention of removing their child with disabilities from life support.

Proposal Submitted to move individuals from George Pearson Centre

Inclusion BC has submitted a proposal addressing the urgent need to begin moving people out of George Pearson Centre. The proposal details Inclusion BC's commitment and comprehensive strategy to working with the Government of BC, its Ministries, Vancouver Coastal Health, individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, member agencies, experts and community stakeholders to deliver on our promise of de-institutionalization and full life in community, as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Inclusion BC part of Coalition to make Rental Affordability a Federal Election Issue

Together, members of the newly formed BC Rental Housing Coalition are calling for urgent action on an issue that impacts over a third of British Columbians. Read more and watch the Global TV interview here.

Translink User Advisory Committee

From now until September 30, the TransLink Users’ Advisory Committee (UAC), will be accepting applications for members wishing to serve a three-year term commencing in January, 2016.
Applications are encouraged from people with various disabilities, seniors, and anyone with significant experience or networks in the area of accessibility.The application form and more information can be found here.

Employment Matters and Employment Matters Too

Filmmaker Brandy Yanchyk's documentary series about inclusive hiring for people with intellectual disabilities, Employment Matters, aired on Aug 22, on CBC. The documentary explores the untapped market and huge potential of people with intellectual disabilities in the workplace and features workplaces in the Lower Mainland and Prince George. You can watch the documentary on the CBC websiteEmployment Matters Too is a documentary that discovers how large corporations benefit from hiring employees with intellectual disabilities and airs on Aug 29. Ready, Willing and Able National Website Launched

The Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL), the Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorders Alliance (CASDA) and their member organizations who make up Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) have launched a new website. The National RWA website includes information and resources on inclusive hiring, business case examples and success stories, as well as a national contact list to help employers connect with employment specialists. Visit the National RWA site.
