A letter from Head of School, Steve Coleman:
Dear Parents:
D-Day has arrived! Our new Peak students and their parents arrive today and begin their adventure in authentic learning and community engagement. While these new families have not experienced the excitement of the pioneering days, they join us at a moment when the school is still a work-in-progress – reaching further and deepening its programmatic roots. I know you will all extend a warm Peak welcome when you meet the new families at Back to School Night.
Back to School Night, in fact, is just around the corner – Thursday, September 10 from 5:00 – 6:00pm. The first half of the program will feature yours truly, as I introduce new faces on the staff and talk about the many ways in which we will both emphasize our founding principles and implement Peak 2.0 as we grow into the upper high school years. Founding families know that each year Peak has grown in significant ways; this, our fourth year, is no different and I am excited to point out what we have planned for you and your students.
The second half of the program we will split you into two groups - Middle and Upper School parents, and teachers will present their syllabi for the year and introduce Google Classroom, one of the new online tools that will help you (and your students) know what homework has been assigned each day in their classes.
We’ll also take a moment to celebrate the achievement of becoming officially accredited after just three years of operation.
That achievement was the result of a great deal of hard work by many people over more than three years. It is an effort that can easily be related to the Essential Question selected by our faculty for the 2015-2016 academic year: “What emerges from struggle?” This is the theme that students and teachers will reflect on in class and in the community as a whole.
We’ve got a fun orientation week planned, culminating in the all-school camping trip. The much-awaited day is here – let the games begin!
Cheers,
