End Extreme Poverty. Fight Inequality and Injustice. Fix Climate Change.

The Millennium Development Goals that were launched in 2000 set 2015 as the target year. The MDGs was the most successful Global Momentum against poverty. They set out powerful goals establishing ambitious global targets and measuring their progress to end poverty and improve the lives of the most vulnerable.

Did you know?
  • Since 1990, 700 million fewer people live in extreme poverty
  • Developing regions enrolment in primary education reached 91%
  • 2.6 billion people gained access to improved sources of water
  • The rate of HIV infections fell by 40%
We can do more!

Recognising the success of the Goals and the fact that a new development agenda was needed beyond 2015 - countries agreed in 2012 at Rio+20, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, to establish an open working group to develop a set of Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals).

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which will be announced today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what these did not achieve. They seek to realise the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: The Economic, Social and Environmental.
The Goals and Targets will stimulate action over the next 15 years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet:
  1. People
  2. Planet
  3. Prosperity
  4. Peace
  5. Partnership
This momentous agenda will serve as the launch pad for action by the international community and by national governments to promote shared prosperity and well-being for all over the next 15 years.

But what can I do?
The more people who know about the Global Goals for sustainable development, the more successful they will be. If we all fight for them, our leaders will make them happen. There are different ways that YOU can get involved in the creating the future YOU want for our world.

1. Take a #GlobalGoals selfie and spread the word right across social media that you are taking a stand in the fight for a just and equal world
2. Become part of the biggest team in the world and participate in the Dizzy Goals joining the likes of Gary Linekar, Alan Shearer and Liverpool Football Club who have already supported the Dizzy Goals
3. Join the world's biggest cast and tell everyone about the future you want
4. TAKE ACTION! Join the movement and spread the word to make the Global Goals famous!
