Calling

#rachelsjourney November 19, 2015

Sitting at the mouth of the Cam River, Haiphong is Vietnam's third largest city, and the most important port in North Vietnam.  I got to spend an afternoon exploring the Port and catching a glimpse of how average Vietnamese pass their afternoons and evenings.  I found Hai Phong to be very friendly although it has a bit of a reputation for unsavory elements.  A lot of cargo passes through Hai Phong as it is Viet Nam's most important seaport.  See more of Rachel's travels.
Another city.  Another maze of hems.  Hems (or alleyways) are pretty standard fare in any urban area within Viet Nam.  I shared about them some as I toured in Saigon previously.  The same seems to hold true here in Haiphong.  Because the hems are "isolated" from the main roads, there's a tendency in me to view the people as wanting to remain isolated or even lonely.  But nothing seems further from the truth.  Relationships back in the hems seem strong.  And even for an outsider such as myself walking in, the people are warm and welcoming.

During the night a vision appeared to Paul: A Macedonian man was standing and pleading with him, “Cross over to Macedonia and help us!”  After he had seen the vision, we immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to evangelize them.  Acts 16:9-10

Journey Prayers - Week 12

Praying for the people of Hai Phong

  • Pray for Believers, both Vietnamese and foreigners to accept the 'Macedonian call' to go over to the city of Hai Phong and help the people there.  Pray that Believers called of God will abandon all else to make their way to this city to share the Gospel.
  • Hai Phong is a major shipping port with cargo and people transitioning in and out regularly.  Pray that the Gospel would spread through these shipping companies.
  • Pray for Believers in Hai Phong to grow in understanding of their call to evangelize their family and friends.  Pray that they would be bold in doing so and would be faithful in discipling new Believers.
  • Pray that this year new churches will be planted in Hai Phong that will in turn multiply out and spread throughout the city.
