ANTHOLOGY
MARIANNE VAN KERKHOVEN

The Flemish essayist and dramaturge Marianne Van Kerkhoven (1946-2013) was a highly influential figure in the field of performing arts in Europe during several decades. In collaboration with the Kaaitheater, Sarma sets up an archival and research project to disclose her legacy. Sarma anthologizes Van Kerkhoven’s early reflections on political theatre, her interviews and ‘dramaturgical’ essays for the performing arts journals Etcetera and Theaterschrift, artist portraits written for the Kaaitheater, dispersed writings, lectures and translations. The entire collection can be accessed here.
The digital version of the poster publication, especially made for the release of the anthology and the first one in the new series Sarma Docs, can be found here.

YODEL PORTRAIT DOREEN KUTZKE

On 8 August 2015, the World Yodel Day, Sarma released Yodel Portrait Doreen Kutzke, Myriam Van Imschoot's latest video in the series Yodel Portraits. It tells the story of Doreen Kutzke, a yodel queen who developed from early childhood in the GDR a voice as a missile to make walls crumble.

Now on display on Oral Site, the portrait is one outcome of Van Imschoot's longstanding interest in orality and breaking voice techniques. The other portraits in the series will be presented both on- and offline in 2016.

CHOREOGRAPHING PROBLEMS

We are glad to announce the release of Bojana Cvejić's latest book Choreographing Problems: Expressive Concepts in Contemporary Dance and Performance. The book illuminates the relationship between the philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and experimental dance and performance in the works of choreographers, Xavier Le Roy, Jonathan Burrows, Boris Charmatz, Eszter Salamon, Mette Ingvartsen, Jefta Van Dinther, and Jan Ritsema. Combining intricate analysis of seven groundbreaking works with a philosophical discussion of the body, movement and time in performance, as well as the notions of theatricality, affect, improvisation and process, the capacity of choreography to 'express' thought is unravelled. More info and vouchers can be found here and here.
