Basis Training & Education design and deliver specialist training and research on current social issues. We are linked to the charity Basis Yorkshire (formerly Genesis Leeds), who support sexworkers and girls at risk or involved in child sexual exploitation. As a Community Interest Company we reinvest all our income into our front line work.

We hope you’ve all had a great summer and are ready for the countdown towards Christmas (already?!). Over the summer we’ve been busy updating our training, setting up new training dates and finalizing our latest resource Is it Normal?

Level 3 Child Sexual Exploitation  - Practical Challenges | Oct. 20  (Leeds)
Our CPD certified Level 3 course explores the Practical Challenges of working with young people experiencing CSE, sharing experiences, tools and techniques developed over years of working with victims of Child Sexual Exploitation, such as overcoming resistance and working with hard to reach groups. Level 3 Supporting CSE Child witnesses through court |  Nov. 5 (Manchester)
“My view on victim evidence has changed!”
Following the successful launch in June of this course here in Leeds, we are hosting the next one in Manchester on November 5, 2015. This course is for those who have attended a range of CSE training courses and have a clear understanding of CSE are supporting a child that is a victim of CSE that is or might have to face court proceedings in the near future. The training shares the experiences of this to date and what lessons can be learned from these to get it right for children – now also CPD certified!
Free CSE sessions in schools up to Dec. 2015
Supported by a grant from the West Yorkshire PCC, Basis Training and the BLAST Project can continue offering free! CSE sessions in schools up to December 2015 for secondary schools in Leeds - call or email us get your booking in now! - first come first served! Primary schools! We're working closely with the BLAST project on their new primary school CSE resource which both organisations will be offering to primary schools in Leeds free of charge in 2015/16.
Is it Normal?  
Our participatory arts resource (film & pack) on pornography, sex and relationships aimed at initiating conversations with young people about this topic, based on verbatim conversations with young people, is now ready!! It can be ordered as of Sep. 14th on the website! 
Basis Training & Leeds Beckett will be hosting an event on to bring together Leeds based practitioners working with young people (social workers, teachers, youth workers, researchers from the academic, third and public sector)  on the topic of young people accessing material/images with explicit sexual content, with the aim of providing a better service to young people on this topic, through more awareness, sharing of effective practice, improved and more widely available resources, addressing common challenges and/or developing new resources/research.
 
Attendance is free but you do need to book (cancellation charges apply)! 

 
OTHER NEWS: 
A number of CSE publications have been published over the summer including A study of international comparisons of CSE and "A comprehensive and candid debate involving a range of senior professionals on the ongoing efforts to understand, combat and prevent child sexual abuse in its various forms, including CSE and to address the trauma it causes for victims".

#ThinkB4USend Campaign LSCB Leeds: Basis Training is pleased to be supporting this campaign about sexting - just this week this has been in the news again in our region - it remains an issue we raise in our schools CSE prevention work. Please help us spread the word!
