Are we too "plugged in"?

 Dear friends,
I spend way too much time looking at my phone. I realized that while playing with my son at CMEE the other day. In the active play gallery, I noticed three parents or caregivers sitting around the perimeter of the room, glued to their screens. They didn’t even look up when Bennett ran toward them. “Wow,” I thought, “if I hadn’t left my phone upstairs that could easily be me.” I’m constantly glancing at mine to see if I received any emails or texts, look things up on the web or even to check the time.

Big Truck Day!

On September 26th, join us for BIG TRUCK DAY @ CMEE! Kids of all ages will have the chance to explore and interact with some of the massive moving machines that share our roads! Emergency vehicles, construction and farming machines and more will be on site along with the people who drive them.
Ages: Kids of all ages!
Cost: Free for members, $10 for non-members (cost includes admission to the Museum)

Hampton Bays resident Emily Tobar has been coming to CMEE for more than half her life. Her first introduction to the Museum was in Head Start when she was just 3 and a half years old. Last year, she was part of Ciencia en CMEE, our afterschool program designed to promote science and literacy to Spanish-speaking families. During her last visit, we asked her to share her three favorite things about the Museum:
- I like to make new friends and it's really easy to do that here. You just talk and you made a new friend!
- The new kitchen. It makes me feel like a chef!
- The people who work here...my friends upstairs!

Help your students meet New York State Learning Standards by registering for a field trip to the Children’s Museum!
Our educators strive to make your visit to the Museum feel like an extension of the classroom. We believe in providing opportunities for students to create their own learning through guided experiences. Learning through play creates commitment and confidence in the theme at hand and inspires a lasting memory for both students and teacher.

To celebrate the Museum entering double digits, we’re throwing a party—and you’re invited! Please join us between 10am and 1pm on Sunday, October 11th for a day filled with rockets, lava lamps, mini golf, drip painting, games, songs, food, fun…and maybe a few birthday surprises.
Ages: Kids of all ages!
Cost: Free!
