Digging deeper into the WA State Energy Code with Duane Jonlin, AIA of the State Building Codes Council (SBCC.)

We'll bring the coffee; you bring the code questions. Our discussion topics will include: Applying modern energy codes to older and historic buildings, Code requirements for continuous insulation at the exterior, Thermal bridging, Air barrier issues, Insights into direction of WA Energy Code Amendments and more. Please note that the Council is entering the comment period on proposed rules to adopt the 2015 State Building Code. The first Public Hearing will be held in Spokane on Sep 11 (Fire Dept Training Ctr 1618 S. Rebecca St) with a second Public Hearing in Olympia on Oct 16. Written public comment must be submitted by Oct 23. The rules are anticipated to be effective July 1, 2016.  More information on the proposed changes and on submitting written comments.

AIA Seattle’s Honor Awards for Washington Architecture is a nationally-recognized program that explores and honors projects designed by architects throughout the state of Washington. Register and pay by Sep 23 to avoid a 15% late fee. Registration must be completed by 5pm Sep 30.

AIA Southwest Washington is accepting call for entries for projects for their 2015 Honor Awards Program. The Entry Form is due in the SWW Chapter office by Oct 8. More information

An outcome of AIA National’s Repositioning initiative requires all AIA state components to submit a Memorandum of Understanding by year end 2015 specifying how all their components will work together to best serve all AIA members within that state.  States that cannot develop such an MOU will not receive an allocation of Member Service Revenues monies from AIA National starting in 2016. Learn what AIA|WA Council and AIA Spokane are doing to better serve AIA members.

The 2015 AIA Montana Conference (Sep 24-25) in Bozeman, MT will feature inspiring architect leaders currently practicing in the region; commercial/industry presentations; an awards reception and banquet on campus celebrating achievements in Montana and the NW+P Region; and a variety exhibitors sharing current product and service information. Every year, AIA reviews one section of its Public Policies and Position Statements directory. This year, the AIA is considering revisions to the first section of the directory, entitled The Architect. As an AIA leader, your input is a vital part of the review process. Please take this survey to offer feedback on the proposed changes. The deadline to participate is September 15, 2015.
