Aaahhh...September!

Artfully Knit and Crochet your life...one stitch at a time!

Just the word "September" brings (for me) a sense of slowness and nostalgia. It's a month of cooling temperatures, no major holidays or decorations. Even Labor Day is often a day off for some, a great way to relax a bit after getting all the kids back in school. It's a time to knit and crochet to your heart's content. A time to start on making Christmas Gifts. A time to learn a new stitch or two. These are some of the things I'm looking forward to this month. I hope you are too!

This newsletter is packed with goodies for you! But I want to encourage you to visit my blog often this month. I have a lot of finished projects I want to share with you in hopes of inspiring your knitterly exploits. Be sure to check out the classes I'm teaching this month--Shoulder Cozy, Stripes & Ribbons Shawl, Beginning crochet and knitting, etc.  And...if you ever think of something you might like me to teach in the future at Knit One Smock Too, or for a private lesson, send me a note about that!

I'm currently learning the Brioche Stitch in knitting! So far so good and I hope to offer this as a class later this fall. I will also offer a class in Freeform Crochet in October. So join me for these specialized classes to advance your fiber know-how!

For now, I wish you a September that's a bit slower so you can have many moments of stitching!

Artfully yours,
Jennifer

Shoulder Cozy!

Here is my second Shoulder Cozy by Churchmouse patterns. Last month you saw my first one knitted with Rowan Bamboo Tape. This is also a tape yarn, but it's 100% cotton by Lang Yarns called Sol Degrade. There are so many lovely colorways in this yarn, it was difficult to choose! But I've been wearing it with black pants and a green top and I love it! I did add just a smidgen of crochet! I can't help it...it just needed a little trim around the neck and at the bottom. With only two balls of the yarn I had plenty to add a little crochet garnish. My next one will be made of several different yarns for a fun, funky look.  I'm teaching a couple of morning classes for this pattern in September! If you need an evening class, let me know and I will try to accommodate. Visit Knit One Smock Too for the pattern and yarn or purchase the pattern on Ravelry.

Creative Crochet Lace: A Freeform Look at Classic Crochet by Myra Wood

I've been inspired numerous times by this book! I share it with all my freeform crochet students as it is a wonderful resource for creating garments with crochet stitches "outside the box". No patterns. Just intuitive crochet. Myra gives you instruction and guidelines for creating one-of-a-kind art to wear. I just finished a freeform vest made with jewel toned yarns. Be checking my blog for a post about it!

Ideas

Yarrow & Zooey

At our LYS, Knit One Smock Too, this pattern caught my eye. I loved the simple lines and shape of the sweater (Yarrow by Pam Allen) and thought it would be perfect with the Juniper Moon Zooey yarn I loved so much making the Liesl tunic. So far, I am not disappointed! I did a lot of swatching and measuring to be sure I was embarking on the correct size for me. Then, after several inches into the yoke (it is a top-down make) I grew a bit fearful that it might be too small. So I put it away for a few days. I've picked it back up again and it looks like it will be just perfect, allowing for the linen/cotton yarn to grow just a bit in the blocking. Can't wait to wear this!!

Dreamy Poncho

I recently finished a second Dreamy Poncho! This one is created with about 11 different greens! I have nearly worn out my first Dreamy Poncho so it will be lovely to have another to wear this fall and winter. This is the perfect pattern for using up your leftovers!! Choose all one color range, or create a multi-colored version. My first Dreamy Poncho used only garter and stockinette stitches. This one uses all sorts of stitch patterns. Be on the look-out for a blog post about this one too! (Just follow my blog and you won't miss anything!:)
