Research into physical record storage within Victorian Government

PROV investigates
Since 2013, PROV has conducted a number of surveys to determine the volumes, locations and storage costs of physical government records storage held by Victorian Government agencies and within commercial facilities.

Joint PROV / NAA publication wins award

walata tyamateetj wins archive publication award
walata tyamateetj (meaning to carry knowledge), a guide to Victorian Government records about Aboriginal people, was awarded a Mander Jones Award for best finding aid to an archival collection at the recent Australian Society of Archivists annual conference.

This publication is a joint initiative by Public Record Office Victoria and the National Archives of Australia. It includes information about Victoria's Koorie history through a comprehensive listing of records which can be accessed both in hard copy and electronic formats.

One hundred years of history at Bendigo
The Bendigo Regional Archives Centre holds a treasure trove of regional history amongst its collection of Council plans and maps.

The Bendigo Council's Plans and Maps Collection is extensive, covering a wide variety of topics spanning the 1870s to 1970s.

Here, Archives Officer Dr Michele Matthews takes us through some of her favourite items from the collection.

Victorian Female Prison Registers from 1855-1934 are now available to view on the PROV website.

More than 7000 women are included amongst the records which took volunteers 12 months to digitise.
