A Volunteer Newsletter

What kind of volunteering do you do?
At Spotlight, I am a music volunteer and help out with music production workshops and recording sessions. I also led a summer percussive theatre workshop for youths and will be kickstarting another semester of percussive theatre in the coming September! I used to help out at music classes at neighbouring primary schools whilst in university.

What do you enjoy about volunteering with young people?
I enjoy volunteering in general - and it's not about what I get from it, I guess! For me, it's about finding something we all enjoy doing and trying to lend an extra pair of hands or giving guidance, particularly in a field I have experience in, when I can. With Spotlight youths, they bring a lot of energy, talent and personal drive into every volunteering session I've been to. Music is a way for many to express their thoughts and dreams, so being able to help youths with that at Spotlight has been very rewarding for everyone involved.

What can we find you doing when you’re not at Spotlight?
Drumming on garbage bins in theatre shows, designing playlists for clients, curating music for a music technology company and studying for my degree in Composition, whilst trying to get as much sleep and kale as I can!
