Great Partnerships and Great Design, Make for a Great Tour House

We appreciate the support that many of you showed by visiting us at home #3 featured in BIA's Tour of Remodeled Homes a few weeks ago. We couldn't have been more proud of the finished project as we showed it to more than 700 people over the weekend. This year’s project involved a full kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel and converting a screened-in porch into a three season room.

One of the often overlooked, but most important parts of any remodel is the planning stage. We take pride in partnering with customers to take their ideas of features or design elements for their project, and bring additional ideas, products and designs together to make their dream remodel a reality. Louisville Handyman also has architectural software, which provides 3D walk-throughs, and talented designers to help you with choices such as tile, counter tops, plumbing fixtures, etc.

Over the years, we have learned that great partnerships with suppliers and subcontractors make for great remodeling projects. An example is our partnership with an Amish cabinet supplier which allows us to offer our customers multiple lines of cabinetry at a wide range of pricing.

If you are looking for a great partner, use Louisville Handyman for your next remodeling project. Also, feel free to visit our website www.louhandyman.com for pictures of remodeling projects.

Connecting in Your Kitchen

In today’s high-tech world, everything and everyone has the possibility of being connected. One place in the home where this is becoming more evident each year is in the kitchen. Already a social gathering location for your family, your kitchen is also connected socially to the outside world through your smart phone, tablet and the ever expanding number of amazing apps.

Many homeowners with well-loved cookbooks are also turning to their mobile devices and the internet for new recipe ideas. Websites like allrecipes.com offer cooking tips and meal planning ideas. And the web is now a platform for a wide range of cooking shows that you can watch at your leisure. According to research conducted by Google, 59% of 25- to 34-year-olds cook with either their smartphones or tablets handy.

Mobile devices are also capable of connecting us to our home appliances through apps. Earlier this year GE announced a full suite of connected Profile kitchen appliances to appear throughout 2015. The wall ovens and ranges are available now. You can preheat your wall oven or range remotely. The app lets you set the timer, check cooking status, receive notifications when your food is ready, and turn off the oven from inside or outside your home.

Dacor’s Discovery iQ Dual-Fuel range with smart technology now offers voice activation. The new feature allows homeowners to control their smart appliance by voice command through the Dacor iQ Remote App, from anywhere they are connected. A wirelessly-connected tablet integrated into the front of the range lets you download recipes from the internet and store them directly to the range. The 48" range received the 2014 Good Design award.

The increased use of mobile devices in the kitchen has led to the need for convenient ways to protect them from damage and to recharge them.  At this year’s Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) MasterBrand Cabinets displayed a tablet rack installed beneath the upper cabinets to keep the tablet safe and accessible.

Wellborn Cabinet highlighted Docking Drawer, a charging station by JTech Solutions. This is basically a USB plug inside a cabinet drawer. It shortens the depth of a standard cabinet drawer somewhat, but it keeps all your devices and electrical cords out of the way while charging.

LG Hausys introduced their new TechTop wireless charging surface at the show. TechTop is embedded into a solid surface material, which lets you charge your mobile device by simply placing it on your kitchen countertop. Electricity is transmitted wirelessly by way of electromagnetic fields. This device won the Best of KBIS:Best of Show award.

Looking ahead to the future, Whirlpool debuted their interactive Kitchen of the Future at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The concept kitchen operates as a fully connected social media hub that syncs your mobile devices and all of your kitchen appliances. One of these days, your kitchen may feature an interactive backsplash with touch screens that enable live chats with your friends as well as messages from your oven and refrigerator.
