Welcome to the SINAPSE Newsletter
With the launch of the next phase of SINAPSE, we have a new monthly newsletter to announce news, events, and opportunities of interest to the imaging research community in Scotland.
If you have any items to contribute to future newsletters (including news releases, upcoming events, job vacancies, studentships, funding calls, published papers, received awards, or nominations for SINAPSE member profiles), please e-mail them to kristin.flegal@glasgow.ac.uk
SINAPSE membership is open to researchers in Scotland involved with imaging including MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, EEG, ultrasound, and human optical imaging. Please consider sharing this newsletter with interested colleagues and inviting them to complete the brief joining process on our website: http://www.sinapse.ac.uk/@@join

Postdoctoral and Early Career Research Exchanges
SINAPSE funds are available for early career researchers using medical imaging technologies to spend at least one month with partner organisations in Europe, North America, India or China, in academic year 2015-16.
Awards of up to £7,500 can be used to provide research training and development opportunities while at the same time building experience of international collaboration with academia and/or industry. Click here for the application form.
The closing date for applications is 30 September 2015.
Additionally, funds from the Pools Engagement in European Research (PEER) scheme are available for supporting SINAPSE members to participate in and compete for European funding. Informal enquiries can be directed to kristin.flegal@glasgow.ac.uk.

SINAPSE is calling for images from its members' imaging research to be publicised. Featured images will be rotated through a banner on the SINAPSE webpage and shared through the SINAPSE Twitter account. All imaging modalities are welcome. Please e-mail interesting and impressive images from your SINAPSE-related research to kristin.flegal@glasgow.ac.uk, including an image credit and short descriptive caption for each one (and optionally a link to your research webpage).

SINAPSE Member Profile: Dr Kristin Flegal
|
|
Kristin Flegal started on 1 June as the new SINAPSE Lead Scientist, based at the University of Glasgow. Her background is in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, with a focus on memory and ageing. She earned her PhD from the University of Michigan, and came to SINAPSE after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis, where she investigated mediators of neural plasticity in a cognitive training study using longitudinal fMRI analyses. In SINAPSE, she plans to continue her neuroimaging research on the mechanisms of training-induced plasticity, and translate her findings to studies with memory-impaired populations.
