Ireland Bound

Foreign Exchange
Japan’s Tenri University and SMCC are exploring the possibility of establishing a relationship for international students. The president and others from the Japanese university met with SMCC executives and toured the campus Aug. 13.

Fishing for Scholarships
This year's Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament raised about $50K for scholarships at SMCC and Maine's other community colleges, with the top fish weighing 671 pounds! Students can check out SMCC's SITT scholarships on the SMCC Foundation website.

Gospel CD Debut
SMCC student and gospel singer Fiston Seba Bujambi has released his first CD, titled UGUSENGA (Sweet Hour of Prayer). Fiston moved to Portland from war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2012.

- Amtrak deal. The Amtrak Downeaster is offering a deal for college students.
- Bookstore Hours. SMCC's bookstore will have extended hours (8-6 M-Th and 8-5 F) through Sept. 4.
- Extended hours. The Advising, Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid and Billing offices will hold extended office hours the first week of school. They'll be open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday.
