School Picture Volunteers
School Picture Day is Friday, September 11! If you enjoy wrangling adorable kids, the PTA could use a few volunteers starting at 8:45. The more volunteers, the faster it all goes, but we are usually done around 2 or 2:30. It's surprisingly fun. Even an hour of your time would be a big help. Click here to volunteer.

Ice Cream Social
Come celebrate the start of school at our Ice Cream Social on Friday, September 18 from 6:30 to 8 PM. Pizza, hot dogs, ice cream - everything $2.
If you can volunteer for a half hour or more, please contact Julie Snyder at Julie@thislife.org

Box Tops for Education Class Competition
Welcome SB families! To the "oldies" but goodies and the newbies. Here is the beginning of one of the yearly SB fundraisers, the Box Tops for Education class competition. Starts September 16 and ends October 30. Don't be late but don't be too early

What is she talking about?
Label your (unexpired) Box Tops bags (no more than 50 per bag) with your child's teacher's name, drop them off at the office, or send them to the teacher's classroom. The three classes that collect the most box tops win prizes. First prize is pizza and a trophy; second prize is pizza and a trophy; third prize is dessert. All winning classes get their pictures in the yearbook.
The SB PTA earns funds from General Mills once we turn in the (Unexpired only) box tops toward events etc.

We appreciate your participation!

Did you ever wonder…….
Why milkweed is important? Milkweed is a tall, green plant growing in the garden. It provides the nourishment that the monarch needs to change from a caterpillar to a butterfly. In the summer it has flowers, which turn to pods with “feathery seeds that travel” in the fall.    Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on a leaf, and a caterpillar can eat through about 20 leaves. We need enough Milkweed to feed all those caterpillars. Millkweed plants are food for caterpillars but toxic to humans.

Collard Greens

Harvest collard greens from Strawberry Fields  (Seth Boyden Garden)
  • Wash and dry
  • Rip the leaves from the stem
  • Place on a cookie sheet
  • Drizzle olive oil, garlic and salt
  • Place in a 375 degree oven for 10-15 minutes
  • Share with you children and their friends Yummmmmmmmm

The garden was well cared for this summer. Thank you to all the families that lent a hand! Because of the careful watering and weeding , we are ready to go.
