The Kindle Classroom Project begins the new school year strong!

Dear <<First Name>>,

The new school year has just begun, and I want to thank you again for your contribution to the Kindle Classroom Project.

Because of your support, 592 students in San Francisco and Oakland will receive Kindles this month, each including a library of 500+ books. (Last year, there were 161 Kindles. That's huge growth.)

One of my goals this year is to keep the KCP community up to date on the project. That's where this monthly newsletter comes in. If you don’t want to receive future issues, you can unsubscribe by clicking the link at the bottom of the newsletter.

This Month's Highlights

- 50 students kept their Kindles over the summer and read an average of 4 books each. "Thank you for the Kindle," Luz (Hayward, CA) told me. "All of the books I read were so good."

100 Kindles went out today to 9th and 10th graders in San Francisco. Here they are in the back of my Honda Fit!

- 30 friends, family, former students, and KCP supporters registered 210 new Kindles at the first-annual Kindle Registration Party. Take a look at all those boxes of Kindles!

- 340 Kindles will go to students at Oakland High School. The KCP is partnering with the Oakland Unified School District to study the effects of Kindles on students' reading habits. I can't wait to see the results!

- The KCP has a new shiny website! This will be the hub for students, teachers, and supporters. Go ahead and sign up!

Next Steps

- It's time — at long last — to start filming a video that will introduce the project to the greater community. Anyone know of any local filmmakers who may be willing to help?

- I'd also like to continue interviewing students about what they're reading and letting them talk about their lives in a podcast-like format. It's going to be called "Reader to Reader."

Want to Get Involved?

- Register on the website or follow the project at Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Get the word out!

- If you're local, swing by and help prep a few Kindles. It's a lot of fun!

- Consider supporting a student's reading life this year. The program costs, on average, $20 per student per year. Support 1 student or 5 students or an entire class (or any amount)!

Thank you again for all your support. Please let me know your thoughts and ideas!

Happy reading,
Mark Isero
Founder of the KCP
