13th Annual OALA Golf Day Recap

August 14, 2015

The 13th annual OALA Golf Day took place on Friday, August 14 at the Royal Ontario Golf Club, and it was one to remember. With threatening weather in the morning, the storm missed Royal Ontario Golf Club, and provided us with comfortable temperatures.

We started the day off with a Permacon sponsored barbecue lunch as players signed in before tee time. The fun began as soon as everyone teed off. There were many memorable moments from this year’s Golf Day, like Bryan Belair of Play KSL hitting a hole in one! The course was a tough one, but everyone had a great time playing their round of golf.

The event wrapped up with the Unilock sponsored dinner, a speech from Glenn O’Connor, Luke Kairys, and Dean Armstrong of SMART Watering Systems. There were many prizes donated to the Thames Valley Brick & Tile prize table, and we would like to thank you again for it. Many went home with a prize.
Most importantly, we were able to donate $5,000 cheques to both University of Toronto, and the University of Guelph which will help their Landscape Architecture programs. Thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors and everyone who made this day possible.

Los Angeles Times

Freeways are brutal structures. And they have been dropped into many communities  in often indiscriminate ways. Exits from the 101 spill out onto quiet residential streets in Silver Lake. The monumental stacks of the 105 and the 110 lord over single-family homes in South L.A.

Fellowship Landscape Studies 2016

The Maeder-York Family Fellowship in Landscape Studies at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was created in 2012 to recognize emerging design talent across disciplines dealing with landscape and support experimentation, research, and achievement in design through landscape. In addition, with each selection the committee aims to identify work embodying landscape as a medium of design for the public realm and grow disciplinary and professional capacity within landscape architecture.

The biennial Maeder-York Family Fellowship in Landscape Studies is awarded to an emerging design talent whose work articulates the potential for landscape as a medium of design in the public realm. This initiative is intended to recognize and foster emerging design talent from across the design disciplines whose work embodies the potentials for landscape as a medium of public works.

In 2016, The Maeder-York Family Landscape Fellow will be in residence in one of the Renzo Piano-designed apartments at the Museum for three months during the summer.
