Gardeners question time - preparing your lawn for winter

Ian Stephens of Lawn Master, this months sponsor gave a facinating presentation on lawn care and maintenance.

He asked "Is your lawn looking ‘tired’ after a tough summer?" If so, we can transform it in to a great looking lawn ready for next year.

Lawn Master is the only lawn care company in the UK to only employ qualified groundsmen and greenkeepers. Years of experience mean its staff can deliver an affordable and effective service, without fuss.
Ian Stephens manages Lawn Master for Newark and local areas. He has a degree in Sports Turf Science and managed golf courses for 25 years.
Ian’s tips for preparing lawns for winter:
  1. Moss – It has been a tough year for grass, have your lawn scarified before Winter to help remove it.
  2. Shade - Sunlight is essential for growth and development, reduce shaded areas by cutting back trees and bushes. Remove fallen leaves as soon as possible.
  3. Feed – Autumn feed can be applied, which lasts until late winter. A weed kill will help control weeds.
  4. Aeration – This is one of THE most important jobs of the year. It helps reduce compaction and moss growth, improves drainage and also helps the grass roots to ‘breathe’ more.
  5. Mowing – Cutting grass too short stresses the grass. Cut between 1”-1.5” and ensure mower blades are sharp.
All products are amenity approved and completely safe. Your lawn will be regularly monitored, with prices fixed for the first year.
And if you think your lawn is beyond help - think again! Lawn Master’s Regener8 system can create a new lawn for you in just six weeks, at less than a quarter of the cost of a returf.
