What do you do when you wanna record a rock album and feel like maybe you could do something kinda cool and interesting with it instead of just wack some mics up in the bedroom? Go to America and do it with Calvin Johnson from Beat Happening, of course. Screw Albini, you gotta get groovy, y'know? Adelaide 'slacker cowpunk' band Wireheads have just released their second full-length LP 'Big Issues', and Format Records label boss Alex Gordon Smith spoke to him about the process and what he thinks is cool.

It feels like mainstream media are trying to prepare the mass population for eating bugs – I'm not into that and I'm pretty glad a sirloin cut isn't up around the $50 mark yet. Now we could get into the problems of mass population, a business plan derived around methane-producing livestock or we could just talk about the tasty ribs whilst we've got them – hmm – going to keep the vibes pos' and just let you know that eating American style grub and getting drunk in Northbridge is happening at the one venue with Porky's BBQ & Bar.

This year is going fast and a shiver went down my spine when some dude mentioned Christmas the other day. Spring, summer and the “gift” season is fast approaching and here's a recommended go-to – Miss Moss' Terrariums, a bedroom craft of building highly detailed terrariums in whatever glass foundation creator Martina Ciotti can lay her hands on.

Oh-my-god! Hiatus Kaiyote are pretty much the band right now and I couldn't recommend them more highly – pop melodies and insane jazz structures make them Melbourne and Australia's most intriguing band. They exploded onto the scene in 2012 with debut album Tawk Tomahawk and now they're back bringing their R&B, soul-infused sophomore release Choose Your Weapon.

It's not quite cruise apparel time but holiday vibes float into The Bird this Friday night for a mojito style boogie that will end in a tequila sunrise. The Euro-cruise soundtrack will see the dancefloor tide rise and the good times rolling on in.
