We need a car

It's as simple as that.
Earlier this year we sold our Daewoo Sens that we called The Silver Bullet.  If you've never heard of a Sens, there is a reason for that; if you have, stop laughing. It really was a good little vehicle that went many thousands of kilometers for us.  However, we sold it to someone who really loved to work on cars or loved their mechanic.

We would like to invite you to help us raise funds for the Silver Bullet 2.0!

The Basic info:
Car: Toyota Avensis
Cost in Ukraine: Used $16,000-$20,000
When: As soon as we get the funds
Raised: $4000

Here are a few common questions and our answers. Please let us know if you have additional questions!
Why do you need a car?

One of the biggest reasons is efficiency.  We do a lot of hospitality. We have teams of people come for ministry and we have speakers come for a school or staff training times. This means we are picking people up and taking them places. A drive to an airport can be a 2-6 hours, depending on which airport.  The train system is functional, however, a car would be much more comfortable, faster, and more hospitable.

A personal reason is that a car helps us with basic everyday living. Grocery store runs, hardware needs, supplies for ministry and basic functioning of the YWAM Ternopil location all require a vehicle to make errands in.

In short, a car is quicker, more functional, and more comfortable. Besides, a car will allow us to show you around when you come to visit!

What kind of car are you looking for?

We really had a hard time choosing what type of car to get.  However, here is what we came up with.  We wanted something durable to handle the rough roads and something that wouldn’t be super expensive to fix. Trunk space is also important.  And finally, what a local mechanic would recommend.

We have made our goal a used Toyota Avensis (a new one costs $24000-$26000.)  Not super fancy, but not cheap quality.  It is really functional and has good ratings.  It has lots of space but doesn’t make you feel like you're in a bus.  If we don’t raise the funds necessary, we will have to rethink our car choice, but this is what we would like.

Why is it so expensive?

You need to think of a Ukrainian car as more of an investment than a tool. Cars don’t depreciate here like they do in the states. This coupled with really high import taxes keep cars expensive here. This will hopefully change one day, but at the moment, it is the reality. Most cars are imported, not many are made in Ukraine and the ones that are, are not the best quality.

Comparatively, a $7,000 car in the states would be $12-14,000 here.

Why not get a car in the states?

In the end, it would cost close to the same as a car here after import taxes and the time and money it takes to change everything over.  Basically, pay on the front end or the back.

We also would like to have a bit extra to pay for winter tires, registrations, money transfer to Ukraine as well as other unexpected costs.
How can we give?
There are several ways to give, all of which are tax deductible. We will be happy with any donation, large and small. Please email us when you give and how much so we can be sure to set the money aside for the car!
