meridian apartments welcomes sxsw winners, wdcep and techbreakfast

This summer, Meridian Apartments donated living accommodations to Quorum, an online legislative strategy platform, as the winners of the Washington DC Economic Partnership’s (WDCEP) “Live Free in DC” contest at the 2015 South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, TX. Applicants to “Live Free in DC” were reviewed by a panel of select board members of Accelerate DC, a mentor-venture program created and managed by the WDCEP. The judges considered the benefits a company would receive from a Washington, D.C.-based location including potential customers, partnerships and resources. On July 28th, TechBreakfast, WDCEP and Voyage Control hosted a summer celebration at Meridian for the DC tech community to meet Quorum and connect with some of the region's top tech startups, mentors, advisers, investors and innovators. MVT restaurant, Texas de Brazil, catered the event, which attracted more than 300 guests.
turning the seasonal corner with our freshfarm market

This is one of the best times for our FRESHFARM Market as August turns to September. Jarrah Cernas, of our sole-source, organic supplier, Chicano Sol Farm, tells us it’s the time of year to take advantage of summer veggies and fruits, especially tomatoes. She notes that “melons and cantaloupes might even be finished by the end of this week’s market. Peppers and summer squashes will hang on all the way up through the first frost.” What's coming into season? Jarrah says highlights like butternut and acorn squashes will soon be in, along with more apple varieties like the beloved Honeycrisp. Cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower as well as the “bunching greens” and lettuces will come back in full swing and another round of celery is coming from the garden shortly.  FRESHFARM shared this delicious Blue Duck Tavern summer watermelon and tomato gazpacho recipe this month – perfect for a hot afternoon.
