Welcome to Virginia Vedilago- our new Program Coordinator in the Charleston Tri-County area!

About Virginia:
Virginia Vedilago joined the PASOs team in May, 2015 and is the Program Coordinator for Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties. She has a background in political science and earned her Master’s degree in International Relations from the University Carlos III in Madrid, Spain. In Madrid, she worked for Doctors of the World in the department of gender and human rights where she assisted in project design to ensure gender inclusion in health projects in over 14 different countries. After moving back to the US from Spain, Virginia provided support to Spanish-speaking victims of domestic violence.

About the Tri-County PASOs site
The Tri-County PASOs site offers educational workshops, advocacy and individual resource navigation for Hispanic families in the counties of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester, focusing on maternal and child health, benefit enrollment, and helping participants find medical homes. PASOs also provides comprehensive and culturally appropriate health education to the participants of Abrazos, a family literacy program run by the Charleston County School District.

Virginia works in conjunction with 14 committed grassroots Community Health Workers (or Promotores) who facilitate outreach events in the three counties they cover, and provide one on one assistance and advocacy to community members as they navigate health systems.

PASOs in Charleston is affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina and its College of Nursing, and has strong partnerships with health clinics and local non-profit organizations. Funding support is provided by Trident United Way, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and the MUSC Foundation
PASOs is a community-based organization whose vision is a healthy South Carolina with a healthy Latino community. PASOs provides education, family support services, organizational capacity building and community leadership development.
