2015 LeadingAge DC Annual Meeting 
The 2015 LeadingAge DC Annual Meeting will be held on September 30, 2015.   Register now by clicking here.  This year's highlights include:
  • 9 unique breakout sessions with topics including: Viritual Senior Centers, Person Centered Care, Cognitive Health, Technology, Policy Updates and more.
  • A two part Board Engagement session.
  • Key Note Speaker - Christie Hinrichs, President and CEO of Tabitha Health Care, will challenge the "current one size fits all" health care system
  • Closing Speaker - Larry Minnix, President and CEO, LeadingAge
  • A new registration category available for trustees of member organizations, administrators-in-training, employees of government agencies and full-time students/faculty of accredited universities and colleges.

Advance Release of LeadingAge Nursing Home 5-Star Analysis Report!

LeadingAge DC nursing home members received their first 5-Star Analysis Report last week in advance of the formal launch scheduled for the second week in September. With YELP now publishing 5 star ratings, it is more important than ever to analyze 5 star ratings.  Read more

Local colleges and universities are back in session and LeadingAge DC student members are looking for internships in aging services. Contact Christy Kramer at ckramer@leadingage.org if you have an internship opportunity.


District of Columbia Update
  • Congratulations to the newly certified DC Preceptors who are LeadingAge DC members.  The Board of Long Term Care Administration, LeadingAge DC, and DCHCA partnered to host a Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor training this past July.    These newly certified preceptors include Denise Chadwick-WrightBarbara W. D'agostino*Sandy Douglass*Remy JohnsonSr CelestineSteven Nash *Tina SandriMary Savoy, and Ann Schiff * (*These preceptors were previously certified)
  • DHCD to Release Request for Proposals on Affordable Housing Projects DHCD and partner agencies will release a Request for Proposals (RFP) on July 29 and will hold a kick-off meeting on July 30. Applications must be submitted online and will be due October 5.
  • UDC Elder Law Project Establishment Amendment Act of 2015.  This bill clarifies the requirements of providing legal representation to low income persons and to income eligible senior citizens through the training of law students at the University of the District of Columbia Law School. income-eligible seniors will gain access to free legal assistance by supervised law students at the University of the District of Columbia.
  • Financial Exploitation of Vulnerable Adults Amendment Act of 2015  Introduced on July 14, 2015, by Councilmembers Bonds, Evans, Nadeau, Grosso, Allen, Orange, Todd, and Silverman, the act redefines vulnerable adults to include persons aged 65 and over and establishes financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
  • Health Care Decisions Act of 2015. Currently under Council Review is the Health Care Decisions Act of 2015.  If passed, this legislation would establish a MOST Form to capture patients' wishes for medical intervention.  This is similar to the MOLST form currently being utilized in Maryland.     • Social Workers: 6.5 participant hours have been requested from NASW
    • Nursing Home Administrators: This educational offering has been reviewed by the National Continuing Education Review Service (NCERS) of the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) and approved for 13.50 clock hours and 6.50 participant hours.
