Steptember is on. Step it Up!
Make every step count

Steptember 2015 just started! With 359 teams all over Canada and 240 teams in Alberta, this charity event is like no other. This is a great opportunity to get active, develop sustainable healthy habits, and to have some friendly competition amongst your friends, family and co-workers. So now is time for you to take 10,000 steps a day until September 29. Over 40 activities can be converted into steps so for example swimming, wheeling a manual wheelchair and yoga all count towards your daily step total. You can find them on the Steptember website. The website also features health and fitness tips from experts and fellow members of the Step Family, as well as loads of useful things like posters, pre-written fundraising emails, and other tips and tricks.

The funds raised this Steptember  - $53,000 so far - will help Cerebral Palsy Associations across Canada provide family-centred therapies, life skills programs, equipment and support for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. And as a charity that relies heavily on donations to pay for all this life-changing work, every step you take and every cent you make will make a difference.

Adventure without Limits - Journey to the Midnight Sun

Adventure motorcycle enthusiast, Alan Connor embarked on a solo motorcycle trip to the Canadian Arctic in July, in support of the CPAA and travelled over 8,000 kilometres.
Alan’s ride began in Calgary and took him north to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, and back! Alan chose to kick off his adventure by inviting his fellow riders to join him on the first leg of the journey from Calgary to Canmore. With the participation of 25 other riders, and multiple industry supporters, Alan and his friends managed to raise an amazing $12,090 (and counting)!

“I believe that adventure motorcyclists live a life without limits on every trip we take, so partnering with the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta, an agency dedicated to helping individuals live a Life without Limits, made sense to me,” Alan shared.

According to Executive Director, Janice Bushfield, “We’re honored to have been chosen by Alan as the beneficiary of this exciting adventure. He truly understands how important it is to help others live a life without limits, and by pushing himself, he is an inspiration to us, and the individuals we serve.”

Alan has decided to try and reach his original goal of $15,000 by registering for the upcoming Life Without Limits Challenge in Calgary. He has created a team and has pledged to walk his 500 lb bike at the Challenge and is urging supporters to sign up and walk with him. What better way to seal his adventure than with one final push!

World CP Day puts your story on the map

It is time to close the gap between the everyday circumstance and the real potential of people living with cerebral palsy. Through World Cerebral Palsy Day, let's combine our resources, energy and knowledge. Let's share our stories and best ideas and tell the world … I AM HERE  … WE ARE HERE.

Go to worldcpday.org and put your story on the map! Share your stories of challenge and triumph On the Map. Early next year, the website will showcase the best of them and ask the community to vote for the World CP Day Awards 2016.

Afterwards, everyone was treated to  an amazing parade.

Wheelchair Accesible Home Tour

You will have the opportunity to tour various homes in the North and South neighbourhoods of Calgary and talk to the parents and find out what has worked for them. If you are building a new home or renovating an existing property, you will want to come out and get some great ideas. You must register online for this event here. For more information contact Emily@calgarycp.org.
