Mother Earth Farm Update

Emergency Food Network's Mother Earth Farm has had a busy and bountiful August. We've harvested everything from apples to zucchini, planted for fall and winter harvests, tried new pest control methods, and done so much more. September will bring on pears and pumpkins, and hopefully some cool weather. Our crew and volunteers deserve it!

Volunteers of the Month

The Ford Family

In 2011, Bobbi Ford was introduced to our Repack Project by a friend. Over the next 4 years, Bobbi would introduce her mother (Pam), sister (Emily), and grandmother (Karen Waddell) to EFN. We are now working with three generations of amazing-ness! The Ford family is the epitome of hard work and dedication. When we're shorthanded, they're first in line with their hands raised. When they come it to Repack (more apples!!), they always do it with a smile!

While the entire family are frequent contributors to our Repack, Bobbi has also been volunteering at the Mobile Food Bank. When asked how volunteering at EFN has impacted her, Bobbi told us, "Being a volunteer at both the repack and the mobile food trucks, I realized how many people use it, need the food and the help. [Volunteering] makes me want to be a better person. I realize that I have a lot and I'm very lucky and should give when I can."

Thank you Ford family for lending a hand at EFN and always with a smile!

TrueBlue

While the day-to-day activities of TrueBlue employees is to connect people to jobs, they are also committed to bettering their communities through volunteering. This past spring and summer, TrueBlue employees have repacked more than 68,000 pounds of rice, apples, carrots, and peas. This is equivalent to distributing 54,000 meals to Pierce County emergency meal sites.

Thank you TrueBlue for being a great partner and your continued dedication to making our community a better place!

Breaking Hunger

This year's Breaking Hunger event was a fun day of trap shooting, archery, and fundraising for EFN! The event raised $13,560 for hunger relief in Pierce County!

Thank you to all the participants, volunteers, and donors who helped make this event a success!
