Second place went to Nancy Chocker of Kimberly for "Sharing Splendor." Third place winner was Robert Huguez of Boise for "Sawtooth: The Early Bird Gets the Fish" (pictured above). Wildfires on Facebook

Everyone knows August was a very bad month for wildfires in Idaho. From across the state our Facebook friends sent in harrowing and thrilling photos and videos of the flames and the men and women who fight them.

The coverage contributed to a spike in our page's reach to about three-quarters of a million people. If you missed the August images, check them out here.

Send in Your Snaps

Our Facebook page is always looking for photos from around Idaho, which are posted numerous times a day throughout the week. If you'd like to send in an image, attach it as a jpg and send it directly through the Facebook messaging system to Kitty Fleischman.

We can't offer payment, but the exposure is significant for amateur and professional photographers, as demonstrated by the paid work people are getting from posting images on our page.

Write a Spotlight

Every issue, IDAHO magazine publishes a Spotlight feature on a different town in the state, usually written by someone who lives in that community. The place can be of any size, and you don't have to be a published writer to contribute a Spotlight, because we'll help you to put the story into shape if necessary. And we'll pay you for it!

If we haven't profiled your town yet, we'd be interested in hearing from you. Just drop a note to managing editor Steve Bunk, sbunk@idahomagazine.com.
