February 2 - 7, 2016  MEXICO CITY ART TOUR

 In February, 2016, Mexico City is the destination of the Contemporary Collectors when MACO, Mexico’s popular International Contemporary Art Fair, regarded as the most important art event in Latin America, will take place.  The CCOC will have special VIP passes for the opening events as well as VIP passes to visit the Material Art Fair, Mexico’s first and only contemporary art fair dedicated to emerging artists.

Highlights of the tour include visits to the new Museo Jumex and the Coleccion Jumex, both housing the collection of founder, Eugenio Lopez Alonso, said to be the largest modern art collections in Latin America.  Other museum visits will include Museo Soumaya, the collection of Carlos Slim (the richest man in the world), MUAC, Mexico’s newest and most exciting contemporary art museum, and the Museo Tamayo, plus others.

Time will be devoted to Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo with visits to their studios, Frida’s Blue House, Rivera’s murals at the Palacio Nacional and San Ildefonso College, considered to be the birthplace of the Mexican mural movement. A private tour of Casa Estudio Luis Barragan, the restored home and studio of architect Luis Barragan, built in 1948 and cited as one of the most influential examples of modern Mexican architecture. Of course, will we see Mexico City’s Cathedral located on the Zocalo, one of the largest city squares in the world.

Galeria visits are planned including OMR, the premier contemporary art gallery located in the Roma district, now recognized as the leading art scene in Mexico City. Founders Patricia Ortiz Monasterio and Jaime Riestra will give us a closed-door visit to their new gallery space plus host us for cocktails in their home. 

Our days will end with visits to private collections and leading artists’ studios, including Pablo Vargas Lugo,Thomas Glassford, Maximo Gonzalez, and Jorge Mendez Blake.

We will stay at the Hyatt Regency located in the Polanco district of Mexico City and travel in two Mercedes Benz vans accompanied by art consultants and travel experts, Marisa Fernandez and Leticia Vasquez.

Your check is your reservation.  The members who signed on at the time of our first mailing in July will be given priority and will have one week to respond upon receiving this flyer.  Following that, members will be confirmed in the order of the receipt of their deposit check.

 

Cancellation/refund: Deposit is non-refundable unless the trip is oversold. Cancellations after final payment will result in 100% penalty unless space can be resold.  There will be no refund for unused services or tickets once the tour begins.  Trip cancellation insurance is strongly recommended and must be purchased separately, no more than 21 days from first tour payment to qualify for waiver of pre-existing conditions. Do not place insurance until your place on tour is confirmed

 

Responsibility:  The Contemporary Collectors Orange County (CCOC) and their principals have contracted independent contractors to provide accommodations, transportation, meals and other services, and are not responsible for actions or omissions, casual or intentional, or any breach of contract which may occur on the part of a supplier that causes loss, delay, injury or damages to the client or other tour members.  If the client agrees to travel on this tour, the client assumes voluntarily any risks that accompany such travel, whether those risks are expected or not.  The CCOC and their principals are also not responsible for losses, damages or injuries to tour members in connection with such things as diseases, weather, terrorism, social unrest, mechanical or construction problems, or any other omissions, actions or situations outside their control.  Tour members are warned here about those risks and might wish to purchase insurance coverage regarding them.  The CCOC and their principals use generally acceptable suppliers for their programs.  The client agrees that they are not to blame should there be problems with arrangements, and also agrees that any claims of damages must be sought from those suppliers directly.  If damages occur before or after the tour booking and travel period, the CCOC and their principals shall be totally blameless.  Your payment of a deposit for participation on this tour constitutes your acceptance of these conditions.
