Welcome to Martha Kisling's Art With Heart!

BIG NEWS!! It has been a few months since my last newsletter because we have been busy moving from Colorado to Tennessee! Over thirty years ago I met my husband Todd in Denver, CO where we married and had our three children. After eighteen years, we moved east for six years in South Carolina and then back to Colorado for the last ten years. When the opportunity to move again presented itself we decided that not only was it a good career move for my husband but we would get to live closer to our oldest daughter, her husband and grand baby on the way and could hopefully realize our retirement dream of living on a lake a little sooner than planned!
An exciting new chapter in our lives and a chance for me to stretch my wings artistically. I have focused on all types of watercolor painting and teaching the last fifteen years and loved every minute of it but feel ready to embrace more artistic experimenting - with mixed media, collage, batik, color, techniques subject matter and words - to incorporate a more heart felt connection between me, my art and you. I hope you will join me on this new journey - both personally and creatively!

Be sure to visit my blog to see past postings and more of my art and you can also subscribe to this newsletter if you haven't already.

May your heart be filled with creativity!

New Adventure!

Our first time to jump in the lake here in Tennessee. The Knoxville area is known for its five beautiful lakes and as I stated in the intro letter it has been our dream to live on the water for quite a while. Todd and I have been busy driving around to get a feel for different locations and we decided to rent a boat for the day and see things from the water. It was a perfect day to take the plunge - in the water and in our new adventure!

Creative Corner!
Acrylics & Collage

For my Creative Corner this month I combined acrylic paints and collage for a mixed media piece. I had used collage and acrylics on a large painting for the bear and did not really like the overall piece so I cut the bear out and glued him on a 16x20 inch canvas that I had already painted. I added some heavily textured hand made paper (from days past when I made paper) under his legs and painted in a moon for more atmosphere. I was much happier with the finished piece!

Aspen Trees

I try to post to my blog several times a week to keep everyone updated on my art. One of the fun things about a blog is that you can view present and past paintings by topic or category - see all of my Aspen Tree posts here

Private Lesson Revisited

Two years ago Betsy, her husband and three children were vacationing in Colorado and she contacted me about taking one of my workshops and scheduling a one day private lesson. We had a great time painting together and she was a delight to teach. This summer she and her family returned to Colorado Springs for a family visit and we had a chance to paint together again for a day and a half. This time she wanted to focus on loosening up so we did several wet on wet techniques, played with negative painting, experimented on yupo paper and generally had a great time!

GARDEN WINDOW now has a new home in Vail, Colorado with one of my new collectors - thanks Mackenzie!

Fresh From My Studio

I began this painting by pouring the primary colors on wet paper, letting the paint mix without using a brush.
