Become an SAC Board Director

As of April 2016, there will be five vacancies on the SAC Board of Directors. We invite all eligible candidates to apply to serve on our Board.

By serving as a Board Director, you will help grow your national association, promote the professions across the country and advocate for communication health in Canada.

We've got big plans for 2016 and beyond, including: building on our Vote Communication Health Campaign, launching more promotional activities, developing new resources and position papers and expanding our professional development program. This is an incredible opportunity for you to not only give back to the professions, but also gain valuable experience in governance, leadership and strategic planning.

Board Roles and Responsibilities

SAC's Board Directors play a pivotal role within our association. They represent the diverse needs and interests of our members and associates and ensure that SAC is continually working towards achieving its mission and vision.

As a Board Director, you will:
  1. Provide input on overall policy, planning and financial management for the association, working in a capacity that best suits your strengths.
  2. Participate in an average of four teleconference Board meetings annually (SAC covers teleconference expenses).
  3. Attend two in-person Board meetings per year (spring and fall; SAC covers travel and accommodation expenses).
  4. Advocate for SAC in the community and seek opportunities to recruit new members and associates.
Board Eligibility Requirements

There are five positions currently available:
  • three Board Director vacancies (to be eligible to fill one of these positions, you must be an S-LP or audiologist SAC member)
  • the position of Director-Communication Health Assistant (to apply for this position, you must be a communication health assistant SAC associate)
  • the position of Director-Student (we will issue a separate call for candidates who wish to fill this position)
We encourage all those who are interested to submit an application, however since SAC's Board policy states that we shall not have more than two Board Directors from one province at any given time (except in the case of the Director-Communication Health Assistant, Director-Student and Director-University) we cannot accept applications from candidates living in Manitoba to fill the three Director vacancies. Individuals applying for the position of Director-Communication Health Assistant can be from any province.

We recognize that each new Director will bring a breadth of knowledge and experience to the position. In accordance with our competency-based Board model, we are seeking individuals with skills and/or experience in the following areas to begin a three-year term starting April 2016:
  • governance / government relations / policy development / regulatory
