Shannon's
Prayer Letter

August 2015

CLASS OF 2019

One of my favorite things about Coastal Carolina University is that 50% of the student body is from out of state. That means that roughly 50% of students that come to Coastal do not have many friends from home and they are seeking community, somewhere to belong and to be known. What if the community they find is one of authentic followers of Christ who will come alongside them wherever they may be on their spiritual journey? This type of community can transform an entire campus.

We pray that this will happen not only at Coastal but also at the College of Charleston. It is our prayer that we would end the fall semester with spiritual multipliers on each campus- students who are growing in their faith, sharing their faith and teaching others to do the same.

Coastal Carolina University students fill out a spiritual interest survey for a sweet treat during the first week of classes. We hope to follow up with each contact who indicated they’d be interested in Cru or talking about spiritual things with someone.

There are some really exciting things happening in the next few weeks (and days) to help us get there. We have launched three community groups (small group Bible studies) on each campus. These community groups will be a place for students to get to know one another, study the Bible together, pray for each other, ask the questions they’ve always wanted to ask about God and spiritual things and learn together.

We hosted a Mugs & Muffins social for Buist, one of the all-female Residence Halls at the College of Charleston. We are excited to start a Community Group in Buist this semester!

On September 17th, author and speaker Marian Jordan Ellis, President of Redeemed Girl Ministries, is speaking at the College of Charleston’s Sottile Theatre. Marian has told her story of how Jesus transformed her life on over 80 campuses and thousands of college women have placed their faith in Christ as a result. This will be her 3rd time at CofC, and we are expecting the Lord to fill each and every seat! Several of the sororities on campus are making “Girls’ Night Out” a required event for their chapter. Will you pray with us that the Holy Spirit will prepare each heart that will be there, that girls will surrender their lives to Jesus, and that God would ultimately be glorified?

As I begin my 8th year on staff with Cru, I am extremely thankful for your prayers and partnership in making Christ known on college campuses. I would not be able to do this without you. It has been a wonderful adventure and I’m looking forward to what the Lord does in and through my life this year as I step out in faith and trust Him for big things.

Please pray for:
  • Students to know Christ and make Him known on their campus and around the world.
  • Girls' Night Out evangelistic outreach September 17th- that Jesus would transform the hearts of hundreds of girls at CofC, especially sororities.
  • Fall Getaway September 18-20th in White Oak, NC- for students to be refreshed and grow in their relationship with the Lord.
  • My personal walk with the Lord, that I would walk in the power of the Holy Spirit moment by moment.
