Nationally, rheumatic fever has reduced by 24%.

Tony Ryall joins Nirvana Health Group

Former National MP and Minister of Health Tony Ryall is now a strategic advisor to Nirvana Health Group – the management support organisation Total Healthcare contracts.
“I am delighted that Mr Ryall is now a strategic advisor to Nirvana Health Group. Like many of you, I consider him a wise friend who in his former role was extremely accessible and open to new ways of thinking. I look forward to working with him,” Total Healthcare PHO Chief Executive Mark Vella says.

Patients get physical at STARCare in Otara

More than 2700 Total Healthcare patients are enrolled with the At-Risk Individual (ARI) programme and many are taking advantage of free workshops at STARCare in Otara.
In a joint project with Sport Auckland, up to 20 patients are attending six-week courses to learn about diet, exercise and health conditions. Each session begins with 30 minutes exercise led by Sport Auckland’s Laura Anderson (pictured, leading some seated exercises).
Many of the patients attending the programme, held at Total Healthcare’s STARCare centre in Otara Mall, are identified through ARI – the programme replacing Counties Manukau Health’s chronic care management module. ARI focuses on better supporting of patients with long term conditions.
Patients enrolled in ARI will each have a care coordinator, an electronic summary of their medical records available to healthcare providers (via Manage My Health) and a goal-based, patient-centred plan to manage their conditions. Read more

Evolution full steam ahead for Nirvana Group

All Total Healthcare practices, Nirvana Health Group’s East Tamaki Healthcare, White Cross, West Auckland Healthcare, Mt Roskill Healthcare and Raukura, are now all using Medtech’s new practice management system, Evolution.
Total Healthcare board member and Nirvana chair Dr Kantilal Patel rigorously reviewed Evolution at both clinical and practice management levels, taking into consideration key criteria, such as security, patient safety and ease of use.
“This product is superior to comparisons both locally and internationally,” Dr Patel says. “We are confident this product will cater for our future needs and growth and has significant flexibility over Medtech32 or any other software we have reviewed in our selection process.
“The technology is highly secure and also interoperates with other products. The product includes browser and mobile solutions, enabling better healthcare for patients beyond the clinic in the future. Through investing in our IT infrastructure and transitioning to Evolution, the group is strengthening its leading role in clinical developments,” he says.
Evolution is fully integrated with other Medtech products, such as Manage My Health (shared electronic health record and patient portal) and VitelMed, which provides telehealth solutions. Discover more about Evolution.

Why age doesn’t matter: Ranjna Patel

Total Healthcare PHO trustee Ranjna Patel is featured, alongside four other inspirational women, in Viva magazine – a weekly insert in the New Zealand Herald.
Ranjna is fiercely passionate about community, healthcare and people. A third-generation New Zealand-born Indian, in the 1970s she founded East Tamaki Healthcare (ETHC) with husband Dr Kantilal Patel — starting as a small GP clinic in Otara.
Today, the Patels run more than 30 clinics under the umbrella of Nirvana Health Group, employ more than 800 staff, have more than 190,000 registered patients and every year provide more than one million GP consultations. Read more

Total Healthcare welcomes U-13s funds

Since 1 July, a large number of general practices nationwide no longer charge fees for youngsters under 13 for doctor visits, day or night.
Total Healthcare’s medical providers are proud to continue offering zero fees for children and teenagers under 18, 24 hours a day which they have done since 1977.
We’re glad to see the Government understands that providing this service is a priority for youth, with the extra funding for this vulnerable group much needed.
