Alumni Awards and Homecoming Kickoff

Southern Wesleyan University’s 2015 Homecoming festivities will begin with an unforgettable evening, featuring the Rick Webb Family (left) and SWU’s own University Singers (right), Oct. 30 in the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $10 per person. Tickets for the VIP Dinner (5:30 p.m. seating 5 p.m.) and concert are $25 per person. Alumni Awards

Also that evening, we will honor the lives and accomplishments of our outstanding alumni – Damon Qualls, Dr. Vicki Dill Luther, Dr. Ashley Joiner George, Dr. Keith Connor, and we will present a posthumous award honoring DePayne Middleton-Doctor to members of her family.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, center, paid a visit to SWU Sept. 14, speaking about the role of the Attorney General’s office to a group of students, faculty and staff, as well as local elected officials and their representatives. Jazz Ambassadors to present Big Band, Swing and more

The internationally acclaimed Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C. will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when they appear Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University in Central. Help meet DR fundraising goal

Luke Sawyer (’12) reports that he’s getting within $300 of his monthly fundraising goal and is seeking individuals who can partner with his work with FCA for $50 or $100/month to cover the gap quickly. He is the assistant director of ministry for Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the Dominican Republic. For details or to help, email LSawyer@fca.org.

Tennis Complex progress

Grading has been completed at the new tennis complex at SWU's Central campus and fencing is being installed. When phase one is complete, the complex will include six USTA designed lighted tennis courts that will be "SWU Blue."

Hannah Bradley was named SWU's new sports information director, as announced on Sept 1. Bradley comes to Southern Wesleyan after spending the last two years as a graduate assistant in the Clemson Athletic Communications Department.

Upstate Realtor remembering Alma Mater

Jody Cartee (’93), a Realtor with Aggressive Realty, a SWU psychology graduate and former Warriors baseball player, pledged to donate a portion from his sales to Southern Wesleyan University or any program associated with SWU.
 
Cartee and Kevin Black, Aggressive Realty’s owner, recently joined the university’s advancement team for a tour of the SWU campus in Central, including Dr. Keith Connor Baseball Field. Congratulations!

Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Warren and Esther (’67) Bennett, who celebrated their milestone Aug. 23 with family and a few close friends. Warren and Esther are both retired from Thomasville, N.C. schools and reside in Sophia, N.C. Along with the anniversary celebration was a reunion of Esther with her roommate Jane Potts.

Dave Hansen (’91) was recently hired as an adjunct instructor of bioethics at Montcalm Community College. He is also lead pastor of Lakeview Community Church in Lakeview, Mich.
Preston Lee Stack was born July 10 at 1:26 p.m. to Sam (’09) and Heather Everhart Stack (’08). Preston is 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 21 inches and is Sam and Heather's first born child!
Courtney Webster Thompson (’12) and Josh Thompson have a new baby, Fletcher William Thompson, born Sept. 13, weighing 6 lbs. and 13 oz. Courtney was a forensic science major who now works at SLED in Columbia.
Dr. Jonathan Watts ('74) was recently appointed the Humanities and Fine Arts Division Chair at Snead State Community College, Boaz, Ala.
