Kenya commits to systematically integrate ESD into education policies. The Kenyan Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has a five-year plan to mainstream ESD into the school curriculum. The plan will teach children and youth about ESD at polytechnics, colleges and universities. Global leaders voices: "B
uilding green societies must begin with the way we think and behave"
“We must do more to support young women and men in understanding the scientific, economic, social and cultural dimensions of preserving biodiversity. Young people must grasp the connections between their everyday lifestyle choices and biodiversity. They must become empowered to propose solutions to stem the loss of biodiversity through their changes in their own behaviours.” This joint statement was made by Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director UNEP, Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General, and Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, CBD Executive Secretary in the 2015 YouthXChange: Biodiversity & Lifestyles Guidebook. The guidebook aims to help young people, aged between 15 and 24, to learn about the different dimensions of biological and cultural diversity and to develop essential skills to take action for its conservation.
