Sustainability Spotlight

Campus planning process integrates sustainability, public input
The 2015 master plan for UW–Madison will focus on infrastructure, energy, transportation, and designing usable outdoor landscapes, with elements of sustainability woven throughout.

Public feedback on the plan is sought at two open houses this week:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 15, 7-9 p.m., in room 1325 of the Health Sciences Learning Center, 750 Highland Ave.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16, 7-9 p.m., in the Sonata Room of the Gordon Dining and Event Center, 770 W. Dayton St.

What's New at UW?

Highly efficient catalyst eases way to hydrogen economy
UW–Madison chemist Song Jin has created a high-performance catalyst, made of common elements, that is capable of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen as efficiently and far more cheaply than platinum.
What is El Niño?
Forecasters predict that the developing El Niño, painted by vivid media descriptions as a formidable force of nature, could rival the strongest on record. Professor Dan Vimont explains this warming of the Pacific Ocean surface and how the Midwest could be impacted.
