Summary of the 2015 SETC Annual Meeting
The SETC 2015 Annual Meeting on June 8, 2015 in Atlanta provided reports on SETC activities and a thought-provoking series of presentations from New York City, California, Tennessee, and the CDC on TB prevention and control activities as well as TB infection reporting. In addition, an SETC workgroup was formed to address challenges of using genotyping and investigating outbreaks. We continue to consider how TB epidemiologists can contribute, with our clinician, nurse and programmatic partners, to the ongoing national dialog about TB control, prevention and elimination strategies and goals. Announcing the 2015 Travel Grant Winners
The purpose of the SETC travel grants is to provide financial support for epidemiologists in training or TB control staff using epidemiologic skills (data collection, analysis, interpretation or communication and disease investigations) who are interested in TB who otherwise would not be able to attend the SETC Annual Meeting.

SETC Outbreak Detection and Response Workgroup Created
At the 2015 business meeting, SETC members proposed the creation of an SETC workgroup on outbreak detection and response. Jeanne Sullivan Meissner from New York City and Tambi Shaw from California agreed co-chair this new workgroup. Workgroup objectives, guiding principles and work processes are currently being drafted.

SAVE THE DATE! New York City TB Genotyping Update
Please save the date for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Annual Tuberculosis Genotyping Update, co-sponsored by the NTCA Society for Epidemiology in Tuberculosis Control: Friday, October 23rd, 2015 in Long Island City (Queens), New York.
Topics will include false positive investigation, drug susceptibility testing and mutation analysis, genotype cluster detection and investigation, TB outbreak detection and response, whole genome sequencing, and genotyping-related research. A formal invitation with further details and a meeting agenda will follow shortly. We’ll also be setting up a webinar version of the conference for those who cannot attend in person. Join the Tele-DOT Survey Workgroup
The NTCA Survey Committee received a request from the Center for Connected Health Policy to conduct a survey on TB programs’ use of technology to deliver directly observed therapy (DOT). The Survey Committee has decided to move forward with the survey and put together the Tele-DOT Survey Workgroup to develop the survey instrument in an interagency effort, involving the Center for Connected Health Policy, NTCA, CDC and other agencies. CSTE Report: Applied Epidemiology Scientific Writing Trends, Needs, and Recommendations, 2014
CSTE is pleased to announce the release of the Applied Epidemiology Scientific Writing Trends, Needs, and Recommendations, 2014 report. As part of the Epidemiology Methods subcommittee, the CSTE Scientific Writing Workgroup led the efforts to better understand the scientific writing capacity of applied epidemiologists. The report offers insight into scientific writing capacity at both state and local health departments and offers recommendations to promote professional development focused on scientific writing skills.
