Sassy. Sexy. Enthralling.
Australia’s opera stars of the future will perform Leos Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen at Sydney Grammar School’s ‘New Hall’ on Friday 2 & Saturday 3 October.
Experience the first opera ever staged in this state-of-the-art concert hall under the baton of internationally renowned conductor Alex Briger. Using the dramatic architecture of the auditorium as a backdrop, director Michael Campbell’s innovative staging of Janácek’s charming story about the natural world and unrequited love capitalises on the youthfulness and dynamism of the cast. The opera will be sung in English and the featured guest soloists Alexandra Flood and Alexander Knight will be accompanied by 68 players from Sydney Youth Orchestras.
Pacific Opera prides itself on providing opportunities for emerging young artists in music and opera who are on the cusp of their careers. These outstanding young singers will be joined by music students from Sydney Grammar School along with members of the Sydneian Bach Choir (Parents & Friends of Sydney Grammar).
Janácek's opera was first performed in 1924, and was based on a comic strip story. It was inspired by his study of animals, and his undying, unfulfilled love of a much younger woman. With a huge romantic score, it is a lush, dramatic and intense tale told through the intertwining stories of a beautifully glorious vixen and the Forester who attempts to tame and contain her.
