Park Highlight:
Cottonwood Park

If you follow the setting sun toward McCarren Bridge at Cottonwood Park, you just might make it in time to see the Brazillian free-tailed bats emerge from the bridge for their nightly feeding!

Science Corner

The Blue Jay frequently mimics the calls of hawks, especially the red-shouldered hawk. These calls may provide information to other jays that a hawk is around, or may be used to deceive other species into believing a hawk is present.

TMPF Goes to DogFest!

We had a great time at this years' DogFest at UNR where we got the chance to raise money for the Virginia Lake Dog Park Restoration Project and help make tree-cookie dog collars! If you'd like to learn more about our Fiscal Sponsorship Projects, please visit our webpage here.

Sierra Nevada
Autumn
 Photography Exhibit

Bartley Ranch invites you to share your favorite fall-themed photographs with thousands of Washoe County park visitors. Participants are asked to submit no more than two framed and ready-to-hang photos that express views of autumn throughout Nevada and the Sierra. There is no entry fee, but you must fill out a participant application. Contact Bartley Ranch Park staff at (775) 828-6612 to make arrangements.

Join us at 9:00am on Saturday, September 26th 2015 at Idlewild Park for a good old fashioned river cleanup!
This event is a part of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful's River Cleanup, who will be hosting an appreciation BBQ following the cleanup for all registered volunteers.

For more information or to register, please email
Belen Figueroa at
belen@tmparksfoundation.org.

Hope to see you all there!

Welcome to our new VISTAs!

We are so excited to welcome Donald Lovejoy as our new Development Coordinator, Belen Figueroa as our new Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, and Kelsey Mazur as our new Program Coordinator.
We're looking forward to the year ahead of us with them on our team!

Check out the newest addition to our website: Kelsey's Nature Blog!
Follow the adventures of an Ohio native as she explores a new ecosystem here in the Truckee Meadows.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, and if you don't know much about nature- you'll definitely learn a thing or two. While you're at it, you should also check out Kelsey's photography companion piece: Kelsey's Nature Blog Instagram
Trust us, you won't be disappointed.

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is proud to announce
it will be hosting a horseshoe tournament on October 24th!
This event is
for those of us that just can't wait any longer for horseshoes to become an official Olympic event.
Don't worry, you don't need to be a pitchin' prodigy to play in this tournament, you just need to
register here to participate.
Registration fee is $20 for an individual and entitles you to two free beers.

The Student Stewards Program is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and standards-based curriculum that uses citizen science to get kids excited about the natural world and their local parks. Parks become learning laboratories where students learn about their environment and collect real data for local and national research projects.
The students also become stewards for the parks in the Truckee Meadows!

We need your help to continue the success of this important program! If you would like to volunteer with the Student Stewards Program we would love to have you. We are looking for help with in-park learning activities. If you have experience working with children or would like to gain new skills please contact our program coordinator Augustine at 775-453-0857 or augustine@tmparksfoundation.org.
We look forward to hearing from you!
