"The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning."  —from Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

August has turned to September and Wednesday marked the commencement of our third academic year as we welcomed 10 new students and 26 returning students. 2015-16 will be an exciting year with a full middle school and a talented and enthusiastic faculty and staff. Our students began yesterday with big smiles, fresh outlooks, new uniforms and crisp supplies. They grew in many ways over the summer.

Seattle Nativity School looks a little different on the inside now with new classrooms: the DeSmet Room, the Caramello Room and the Faber Room, a main office, a principal’s office and a media/electronic storage area. The Evoy Room is now our staff room and the Library has moved to the new, large portable where our administrative offices are located. Many individuals, foundations, volunteers, and other Catholic schools have supported our growth with their generous donations of time, talent and treasure and for all of these, we are grateful!

The 2015-16 faculty and staff is a little different as well. We opened the year with a week of in-services led by Mr. Nelson, Principal, and myself. The teaching staff brings over 35 years of experience and our administrative staff brings 30 years of talent. The team grew together and bonded over the course of the week with the highlight of a Ferris wheel ride along the waterfront. We are ready for an exciting year!

We welcome visitors to tour Seattle Nativity most especially on Thursdays at 8am, beginning with our student assembly, though all are welcome to stop by anytime as we are always happy to show off our school improvements!

During the summer of 2015, several students participated in the AGC Construction Adventure Camp, and experienced science, technology engineering and math firsthand!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Michael Mott, Chairman of the Board of Directors

Once again we are very excited and blessed to be beginning our third year at Seattle Nativity. As we welcome our new 6th grade students and our returning 7th and 8th graders, we also eagerly anticipate that we will have our first graduating class heading to high school at the end of this school year. We started this journey by leveraging the experience, inspiration and proven principles of over 60 nationwide nativity schools that have paved the way for us. Along the way, so many have contributed significantly to making Seattle Nativity School more than just a school but a community. We are honored by generous and selfless contribution of skills, time and financial support from all those who believe in the mission. Together, our board members, faculty and staff, donors, volunteers, parents and students will ensure that Seattle Nativity School will continue its commitment to serve those with the greatest need. We also look forward to continuing to provide an education which is best-in-class and key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

As we embark on our 2015-16 school year and reflect on accomplishments, it's important to continue our work as our first class of students will commence their high school experience as the Class of 2020, preparing for college and establishing a legacy and an opportunity for the many classes that follow.

GRATITUDE

Thank you for supporting our
Promoting Success:
Windows of Opportunity Luncheon

on June 11, 2015!
Its success was due to your enthusiasm and support of our mission:

Seattle Nativity School is a Catholic,
Jesuit-endorsed, science, technology,
engineering, and math (STEM)
middle school seeking to break the cycle
of poverty through an education that
nourishes souls and ignites leaders for
love and service.

The combination of your generous participation, the event sponsorships and gifts from
those unable to attend,
we raised over $355,000
for the education of the
Seattle Nativity School students.
