Meeting at Red Brick Brewery TONIGHT!

Join us for our next neighborhood meeting at Red Brick Brewery. As the summer comes to an end, it's a great opportunity to catch up with your neighbors. We have a few important agenda items, so please come and have a beer or two while we discuss these issues.

Red Brick Brewery is located at 2323 Defoor Hills Rd.

Meeting Agenda:

  • Code Enforcement
  • Crime/Security Patrol Update
  • Next Steps on Howell Mill Rezoning
  • Discuss Upcoming Elections
  • QT Update (likely, pending receipt of information)

The Sheep are Baaaaa-ck!

Thank you to Trees Atlanta for bringing the sheep back to Underwood Hills Park. Last fall, the same herd of sheep cleared enormous amounts of English ivy and other invasive plants. Here are some of the details.

WHY?  The sheep help ensure the health of our trees. The sheep eat English ivy, privet, and other invasive plants that harm to our forests. They easily navigate the sloped forest floor and happily eat the “bad” plants.

WHEN?  Now.  The electric fence is up around the forested area at Harper and Harper. The sheep will stay about a week or until the invasive plants are cleared.

HOW?  Trees Atlanta manages and pays all costs for the sheep. We are very lucky that Trees Atlanta chose Underwood Hills Park for the second year in a row. Thank you, Trees Atlanta, for helping protect our “green community center,” the park!

WHAT ELSE?  The sheep are friendly, and you’ll see them along the edge of the fencing. The shepherd provides water and a trained guard dog who lives with and protects the sheep. The guard dog will bark at other dogs and enthusiastically protect his sheep, so please remember to leash your dogs, especially this week.

JOIN THE PARTY!  We will have a casual celebration at the park this Friday, September 18, from 4:00-6:00 PM.  The shepherd, Jenif, will be on hand to answer your questions, and if you're not sheepish, ewe might even get to pet some of our adorable guests.  (How many sheep puns can one get in a single sentence?  Not enough, I say.)

Neighborhood Entrance Beautification

Join Craig Lambert, our Beautification Chair, for about an hour this Saturday morning at 8:00 to help spruce up the Underwood Hills monument sign at Woodland Hills and Collier.  Bring pruning sheers, gardening gloves, and a container to put weeds and clippings in.  We'll also lay pine straw and plant some annuals.

Recycling Perks Comes to Atlanta

In partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, The Department of Public Works Cartlanta Recycling Program is delighted to offer a new incentivized recycling initiative to residential solid waste customers.

Atlanta single-family residential solid waste customers currently have 95-gallon recycle carts to capture recyclables for convenient curbside service. Beginning September 1, Public Works is partnering with Recycling Perks to reward residents for their curbside recycling efforts. Recycling Perks works with local businesses to provide discounts to citizens for simply using recycling carts.

This measure aligns with Mayor Reed’s goals to become a more sustainable city and working towards zero waste. Learn more at www.recyclingperks.com or call 855-813- 2154 (toll free).

Howell Mill Rezoning Update

The Zoning Review Board passed the Howell Mill corridor rezoning legislation at its meeting Thursday.  By the end of the daytoday, we'll know exactly what date path it will follow to potential legislation adoption, but if it passes through the Zoning Committee and City Council, it should become law no later than October 14.
