Great News! / Bad News...

Dear <<First Name>>

Greetings from the small town of Princeton BC (otherwise lovingly known as "Where?")  We trust this finds you well. Our summer was very full and Wade returned from Cambodia with some great news!

Do you remember last year how Wade taught Brett (the director of Rock Foundation Cambodia) how to make soap? Do you remember our last update when we told you Mouen's story?
Well then, watch the video below for the GREAT NEWS!
We are so honoured that God used us to be part of this amazing story! If you want to know more about Mouen's story, please watch the short new documentary at the bottom of this email...
As you know, Joanna has just finished a 5-month stint as the interim pastor of our church, Vancouver Eastside Vineyard while our lead pastors had a sabbatical. We were very well-supported during the time with an incredible volunteer leadership team and many visiting teachers and leaders from different parts of the Vineyard, YWAM, and other good friends. It was also a quite a difficult time for our church, with multiple emergencies, illnesses, financial hardships. Our family also faced quite a lot of challenges during the time as well, so we definitely feel like "wounded soldiers" coming out the other end, and really grateful for all the people who have helped us during the last 5 months.

Our church family sent us off on Friday, September 4th, to Osoyoos BC, to take a week of rest at a time-share belonging to a member of our church for us to get some much needed R&R. We were approx 1.5 hours away from our destination when all the electricals on our van began to fail on a dangerous stretch of road. Wade managed to coast the van to a safe place to stop, about 6 km outside the town of Princeton at about 5:45 pm on the Friday night of the holiday weekend.... can you see where this is going?
The good news is that even though it was 6 pm on a Friday night, we were able to get our van towed to the only garage in town that would be open on a Saturday. Joanna and the children were able to get a ride into town with some kind locals and our friendly tow truck driver was able to drop Wade and all our bags off at a local roadside hotel that had an affordable vacancy. After an unplanned overnight stay, we were thankful that things didn't turn out much, much worse... The bad news is that our faithful van needed a new battery and alternator to the tune of $800, which we certainly did not have in our vacation budget.

We are so longing for some rest and thought we would let you, our friends who pray and support us, know of our need in case you wanted to be a part of this unfolding adventure. On a positive note, if you are ever broken down outside of Princeton BC, we now know an honest, and highly respected mechanic!

We made it to Osoyoos Saturday afternoon, but the drama continued yesterday when our van suddenly stopped working in the middle of the street when we were in town and refused to start again! Determined not to let it spoil our day, we got it pushed to the side of the road (in front of a local garage!) and went and played at the beach for a few hours.  When we went back to the van, it still wouldn't start and we got a ride back to the timeshare with some friendly strangers.
In the morning I called the garage and they checked the van over only to find... absolutely nothing wrong! A $50 diagnostic test found no problems and the mechanic was dumbfounded why our van was completely non-operational 12 hours before.

So what we most covet are your prayers for our rest and relaxation during the next 3 days while we are still here. On Friday, Sept 11, we will drive back to Vancouver. Please pray for protection for our family and our van as we travel.
As you probably know, no one in YWAM receives a salary for the work we do, and our salaries are paid through the donations of churches and friends like you who want to invest in the work we do in our home, in East Vancouver, Southeast Asia and wherever we are in the world. If you want to give to help cover some of our unexpected vehicle repair costs, please click the button below. We're so thankful for...

  • The incredible launching of Rock Soap, and that Mouen and his wife now make soap, don't need to pick garbage for a living, and that we (and YOU) had something to do with that!
  • For the incredible team Wade led to Cambodia. They were amazing!
  • Our church community supporting us in Joanna's leadership during Gordie and Kathleen's sabbatical.
  • That God constantly has protected us and surrounded us with the right people at the the right time, whenever we have faced challenges.
  • Our YWAM Vancouver family who surrounds us and supports us and cheers us on.
  • All of our financial supporters who make our work possible.
  • Provision of some part-time work for Wade that has covered a shortfall in our support / income.

Please Pray For...

  • For our time of rest
  • For our trip home, for safety and mechanical soundness of our van.
  • Pax, as he begins Grade One at our local elementary school

Thank you so much for your love and care and financial support for our family and our work in Burnaby, Vancouver, Cambodia, and the ends of the earth!

~Wade, Joanna, Sophia, Eleanor, & Pax
